Our only win was in New Orleans when Chris Paul went down. I guess fortunately for us, we only have four more games on the road vs. WC playoff teams. -Pop
That's the thing that scares me... So much of our record is "padded" against the East and at home. We haven't looked so hot against the best of the West.
For the most part everyone plays the same schedule. I feel our record is just as padded as the rest of the NBA. This was a great post pops.
Hardly. Look at our home court record compared to everyone but the Cavs. Our home wins are disproportional to our overall wins. And our record against the East is much better than our conference record, relative to the other West playoff challengers.
Everyone plays 82 games and the top 8 make it in. IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW YOU GET THERE. Good God. Some of you spend a lot of time trying to prove your "favorite" team isn't good. It's really weird.
I noticed that there were 8 games last night. The only road win was by the team with the best record in the NBA against a last place team.
Everybody doesn't play exactly the same schedule. If you play in a tough division, you get more games against those tough teams. That is the differene. Portland is not really in that tough of division, so I don't view it as an issue.
You misinterpret. I said it's a concern, not a measure of us being bad. We NEED to win those home games and East games to stay ahead of the chase pack, because we're not getting it done on the road against the good West teams. That has significant playoff implications.
Well I would have agreed with you had you posted this ^^^ But, in fairness you called the record padded which is what I didn't agree with. It's up to everyone else to match PDX's record at home and vs. the east as much as it's up to Portland to match the other teams on the road and vs. the west. Again, I agree with what you have posted here. I just don't think it's fair to call a good home record a padded one. Hence my response.
I was trying to demonstrate that it's a point of concern. We don't all have to be like MIXUM and say the sky is falling after every loss, but I tire of the "love it or leave it" crew that somehow thinks you aren't a fan if you are critical of the team. -Pop
The home record is legit from a playoff implications standpoint, but the record vs. Eastern teams is what makes the overall be "padded." That record is meaningless in terms of playoff matchups, lest we make the Finals... We're winning less than our share of those West [road] games that count.
That's not really that true. You play almost every West team 4 times. You play a couple teams only 3 times and they're non divisional but most of the non divisional teams you play 4 teams. In the ol old days, when there were less teams in the league. You played all non-divisional West teams 4 times and every divisional team 5 times. But it's not like that anymore.
Then Celtics, Cavs and Magic must all be a giant fucking pillow then. Talk about padding. Look how many home games and victories out east they're piling up. If it's so easy back East why aren't the other western teams mopping up like we apparently are? We've padded our record with Home wins and Eastern wins.... It's so easy.... it's padding right? Yet all but 4 teams are ahead of us while getting more road western victories. I just think it's discounting what this team has done. Calling it padding.
It's not a real surprise, however - is it? It's a very young team - and they are not playing anywhere close to what their talent will allow them to play as time goes on. There was a very clear plan for this year - get to the playoffs - if they do this - it was a good year. Once they get in there - I would love, like most here, I suspect - for them to be really good and advance as much as possible - but let's not go re-defining the targets on the run. The biggest enemy of "good enough" is "insanely great". These kids are not supposed to be "insanely great" yet... let's hope they are "good enough" now and not get our panties in a bunch about being great...
Poor Nawlens.... I notice you didn't mention that our starting point guard didn't play 1 second of that game.
BINGO! I'm getting frustrated with a lot of fans who think that Portland should be better than they are. There's a weird phenomenon with fans that think a team is supposed to meet THEIR expectations. The goal, as stated all along is to make the playoffs. Not based on who or how east or home... but to JUST GET IN. Just because you want them to be better doesn't mean they should be.
