That is crazy money for a player like Chris Canty....the league salary structure is so out of whack....
Wow. I did not see that coming. We sure are devoting a lot of money to the D-line. This really raises a host of questions about our D-line, because its just too damn crowded right now: How bad are Fred Robbins' knees for the Giants to spend so much FA money on what's already a strength. Does Barry Cofield have much of a future with this team? Are we paying Rocky Bernard that much to be a backup/situational DT? How do we manage the snaps for our D-tackles? If Canty will be used similar to Tuck in '06 (playing snaps at DE and DT), where does that put Kiwanuka? Are we going to move him back to LB or do we look to trade him?
It is true what they say about linemen....you can never have enough big and talented players on the lines, so every addition is a good one from a football prospectus....my issue would be the money, but with an uncapped year on the horizon and the threat that the whole system is about to blow up, teams are pushing the envelop on some of the salaries....speaking strictly about football, he helps them a lot....hes another 300lb plugger they can rotate in at both end and tackle and you can never have enough of those guys....you don't add stars in free agency, you add pieces, and for the most part, the Giants get it as an organization....
There's no questioning his talent. I've seen him sack Eli time and time again, with the NY-Dallas matchups. He's a potentially nasty addition to our D-line. I really question Robbins' future with the team though. He was excellent this season, but he suffered a knee injury down the stretch that really limited his effectiveness. As a 30 year old, maybe there's reason to believe he won't fully recover or that he'll experience a decline in the next few seasons. And I think the team is fully willing to move Kiwanuka back to LB, even though its a kind of schizophrenic development path. He's still so young and has shown promise at both positions.
