I want Rose to play as much as anyone. But, fuck it, nothing says "the season is a wash" like a GM undercutting a coach.

That'd make the past six seasons a wash.

Pax could have made it seem like a mutual decision, eh?

    Gonna disagree there.
First, I was calling the season a wash months ago :)

But perhaps more importantly, let's be realistic. Undercutting this particular coach is a step in the right direction. I'm encouraged to see a little bit of fire returning to Paxson's belly. He's not undercutting the coach, he's setting it right when the coach was undercutting him.

I'm pretty sure there were more people worried about the playoffs than development a few months ago. Not playing Rose at the end a few games is a good thing. The kid was getting worse and repeated failure doesn't help much. Now he can jump back in fresh.

Um...no...this would be similar to the percentage that want Gordon gone...pretty small...

Rose was good at the start of the year and Bulls weren't...After that point, any focus on the year above Rose was misguided. It's not like the Hinrich at the end of the game gambit has been gold...cough..TJ Ford...cough

Those percentages are a lot bigger than you think, especially if you disagree with them. I'm not saying I want Hinrich running the point at the end of the game. Just that it is useful for a struggling young guy to sit back once in a while and watch. I'm pretty sure I was the first guy saying this was a rebuilding year and play the young guys and make it easier for them.

I agree. I think some tough love is good for him.

At the same time as saying that, VDN needs to know that this season is not about wins. At the beginning of the season VDN repeatedly said that he knows that this is a "evaluation year" for some of these guys, and most importantly about developing Derrick and seeing who plays best with him. I think when they were playing well a while ago and now the last few weeks with Derrick on the bench, VDN lost sight of this, and Pax needed to step in a remind him that nothing has changed. It's still all about Derrick and evaluating Tyrus, Joakim, etc, and who fits with Derrick.
