good thing the swelling went down, dude needs to take calcium pills all summer long to build up those bones..I think he grew faster than his bones could, so hopefully a he ages his body becomes stronger
Why? Assuming it's not rubbing against articular cartilage then scar tissue will form around the fragment and hold it in suspension, my guess is he won't get scoped until the off-season -- if ever.
When he's back, he's back. I've wasted too much time wondering about the guy while he's off of the court.
size, shape, location ... the team has been very tight lipped with the details of the injury so it's pretty much impossible for anyone but the radiologist who viewed his x-rays and MRI to say what the best course of action should be (surgery or time). My guess is that if the chip was in a place that it needed to be extracted the doctors would have already done this during the all-star break and then given him the two to four weeks needed to recover from what most would assume to be a relatively minor surgery. I guess if you're into conspiracy theories, you might wonder if the team didn't already do a scope and clean out the fragment and then just declined to break the news, thinking that the word "surgery" would cause so much of a tizzy amongst fans and media that the PR hit wouldn't be worth enduring -- I DO NOT subscribe to this theory myself
I'm not a radiologist, but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn last night. That chip needs to come out. The club has already stated that it will be removed after the season I believe. IMO, they should have got that thing outta there as soon as his swelling went down.
Are Oden's bones just like Elijah Prices bones in Unbreakable? I'm starting to think he might just have the same condition!!
Holy cow, if this is true I would be very disappointed. And not just because Oden would be out for the year.
Anyone listen to the Game this morning? What I caught was Hollinger had an interview with Oden and GO said he is definitely getting surgery this summer and is contemplating getting surgery during the season. If he has surgery during the season, they were speculating he would be out for the regular season. Anyone else hear that and did I understand it right, now GO is saying he may get surgery soon?
I guess no one else heard this. I'm surprised, they were making a huge deal out of it this morning. I only heard about 10-15 minutes of it and was hoping to get more details. Again, it is all the morning guys were talking about when I was listening . . . or has this issue (GO saying he might get surgery soon) already been discussed.
It hasn't been discussed. Half of us are wary of a day's worth of being bashed for daring to question St. Gregory and his frail body, and the other half hasn't quite figured out the talking points to uphold the "he's going to be a dominant NBA force who should have the offense run through him right now" line of folly. That said, he may as well get the surgery now and come back for a playoff push off of the bench. I'm guessing that it is Oden who is delaying it if this is true, and I give him a lot of credit for that at this point.
Thanks for the response. I felt like I was in the twilight zone becuase it is all the radio guys were talking about (Oden's interview with Hollinger) and no one is discussing it here. I think there is probabaly GO burn out going on . . . I'll try to find the interview.
I'll be pissed if he has surgery at some point in the near future when he could have already had it done. Doesn't anyone pay attention to my medical advice?!
