Fair enough, but that's why I responded to this thread in the first place.

Larry Miller just said on the radio that the MC is completely owned by city.

Thanks. Lots of confusion on the internet about it. Wikipedia had it a joint venture, other places said Vulcan operate the Rose Quarter but said nothing about the city.

I'm pretty sure that Vulcan and the company that runs the RG also run the MC and the parking garages, but the city owns them.

If you are thinking long run then actually the best time to build something like this is during a lull in the economy, interest rates are phenomenally low which makes borrowing money cheap, and like it or hate it, it would produce some construction jobs and would help infuse some dollars into the local economy.

But then again I tend to ascribe to the Keynesian school of economics, so I'm slightly biased about how you get out of a recession/depression.

The building is really an eyesore.
    Cons
    1. They never replaced the interior roof panels,
    2. The interior black cloth/vinyl siding that surrounds the bowl is old.
    3. Could use more updated arena and concourse lighting

    Pros
    1. Concourse doors and walls got painted.
    2. New trinitron.
    3. Cheaper arena to rent for lessor bands, performers, etc.
    4. Multipurpose arena

I cannot imagine a worse location for outdoor concerts. The freeway noise alone would stop me from wasting my money.

Paul "I'd rather claim bankruptcy than spend my own money" Allen has no business stealing from the stimulus package.

And WTF are they using a construction outfit from Sacramento when Portland has so many idle and failing companies just itching for some work?

I think this is the answer:

Are there lots of Portland companies itching to invest in and operate the venue?

Actually the best time to do stuff like this is during down economic times. You get a lot more for your money when times are bad, which will probably end up saving the city millions on a project like this.

Plus: It sure would be nice to have the occasional Blazer "outdoor" game.

That would be killer, but it would almost have to be in the pre-season, I can't imagine trying to count on the weather to cooperate between October and April.
