Seen these pop up on a couple Mavs board, thought it would be right to have one here.My view on what we might do in the offseasonriority 1: Resign Terry to a reasonable contract, we have his bird rights in case a team gets involved, but nothing extreme otherwise let him go. Cassell, James, Claxton can fit the bill of backup pg next year.Priority 2: Resign Griffin, Marshall, and Powell to minimum deals, if Armstrong can go another year, also reup.Priority 3: Let Van Horn walk.Priority 4: With the spot of backup 4 open, either fill the spot with the upcoming draft, such as Steve James or Paul Mislap. Or Priority 5.Priority 5: Trade Stackhouse with contract expiring for a backup 4 or keep him as 6th man.Priority 6: If the option comes up, trade for a legit 2 guard. Priority 7: Benga situation, use MLE to resign him. That's about it for me, try to keep the team intact with minor replacements.Harris/Terry/ArmstrongDaniels/Marshall/GriffinHoward/Stackhouse/GriffinNowitzki/*Draft pick*/PowellDampier/Diop/Benga/Podkolzin
That Harris, Daniels, and Howard backcourt will have trouble scoring. They definitely need a shooting guard that can hit from outside since teams will pack it in on defense making it harder for everyone to score inside. Daniels is a nice player but he doesn't fit well on this team. Harris is the ideal point guard, Howard is the ideal small forward, but Daniels is not the ideal shooting guard. So I would trade Daniels for a Joe Johnson type of player.

The lineup I like the most right now is either Terry, Daniels, Howard or Harris, Terry, and Howard. The key is Daniels and Harris can both play point guard which allows Terry to play more off the ball and hit outside shots at a high rate. Other than Nowitzki, Terry is the key to Dallas's offense with his quick trigger on 3's that go in at a high rate. Dallas would lose a lot of offense without Terry.
I get what your saying man.I don't think we should let Terry get away like we did Nash for nothing.I do think we should try and keep Stack, he's the best 6th man in the leaugue.I'd agree we need to resign Powell and Marsall, BTW, isn't it amazing that the Mavs haven't had a top draft pick in forever, but we still keep finding gems, Howard(29th pick overall), Daniels, Powell, and Marshall, all UFA rookies I believe...just awesome for us.I do agree in letting KVH walk, but I'd like to see Armstrong return, he's changed around quite a few games, especially recently.
Yeah Armstrong is probably the leader on the team off court wise and also somewhat on court. He can't seem to shoot anymore but helps out in other ways.
Yeah, like the 24 point comeback win vs the Raptors is a perfect example...we were down 24, then DA came in, and we turned it around in a hearbeat.Same thing when we were down 19 at the half to Cleveland, and then had it tied up at the end of the 3rd.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>but we still keep finding gems, Howard(29th pick overall), Daniels, Powell, and Marshall, all UFA rookies I believe...just awesome for us.</div>Don't forget about Benga.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I do think we should try and keep Stack, he's the best 6th man in the leaugue.</div>I wouldn't mind it either since he'll be under contract but if Terry is resigned, wouldn't he become the 6th man(under the thinking Harris should start)? So I would be open to a trade if we get a better 2 or pf.And I doubt it would be Nene, whose got quite a few teams looking at him willing to overpay, ie. Bulls, Hawks. Also, I'd think he want to start. We need a guy willing to come off the bench and do the dirty work. Perfect fit is PJ Brown but Hornets are intent on keeping him.On KVH, looking at other opinions and options, he's a guy if signed cheap(MLE range), wouldn't be bad.
I'll agree with the KVH comment, getting him cheap, like you said the MLE, would be a nice keeper. And as much as Stack has done for us, he'd be hard to replace...I mean are you going to get a starter or another bench player for Stack? If your looking for a starter fine, it'd be worth it, allthough I like our team as of now.But if you going to get a bench player for him, why trade him when you can't possibly do better off the bench than what he gives you.Oh and interesting thing about Mbenga is he wasn' even like one of the normal UFA rookies...the guy was on a team playing in the Mavs Hoop challange in the AAC parking lot, and got offered a contract...Once agian, just crazy how good our Front office and scouts are to find guys like Daniels, Marshall, Powell, Mbenga and the like.
It's not that I don't like Stack, I had to defend him on here. It's the fact he's getting older and his knees are catching up with him. He's starting to rely on his jumper lately and I think that's due to his knees. He doesn't have the lift or explosion he used to, and that is leading to fewer drive attempts. Stackhouse ain't a good shooter and that hurts us.Watching the games this year, it would be nice if our shooting guard could shoot longer then 15 foot(Stack can occasionally but he's like 30%). Every time they get the ball at the top or from the arc, they have to drive, rather then shoot. Even when wide open(Daniels a couple times in Wiz game). With Stack having an expiring contract next year, I'd say get something because I think he's done in 2-3 years.
Now I'll agree, besides Terry, Dirk, and to some extent Stack, we are lacking outside shooting, especially with KVH out too...Now if you wanted to trade Stack for a outside shooter, I could see that, but only for a vet that can lift the team and bail us out sometimes.
The mavs should do whatever it takes to get back Terry.i say trade stackhouse and daniels for some high draft pickand this will lead them to be able to draft quality power foward. That leaves an open lineup hole for terry to become SG.Then they should let KVH go and like balla said pick up NeNe. This will make them number one team next year
^Stack and Daniels for a high pick and Van Whore for Nene wont make this team and number one team. You can trade all you want, but that will never promise you a championship. I dont see Avery wanting much movement change on this team. I fell hes happy with what we have. Stack and Daniels for a pick would deffinatly be a waste. Trading Daniels after we give him a nice soild contract in the NBA, im not down with. He's still a project were working on, lets not loose him. Stackhouse, I like having our best bench player be a 2/3. Atleast keep Stack for 1 more season. Nene wouldnt be bad, but maybe a backup PF w/ the draft pick
See the scenerio of letting KVH walk for Nene is nice, but not really something that I see as plausible.I agree with Lazy, trading Stack and Marquis for a draft pick would be waste...who you goin' to get with a pick, high or not, that's better than either one of those players right now? Most picks take a while to develope...plus I also like our #1 guy off the bench being able to play the 2 or the 3 as well.Moving Terry to SG seems all good, but Devin isn't quite ready to take over yet, he should be later on, but not yet.

If we do trade for a high pick which I doubt, it would be for a shooting guard. Also, what's the point of trading 2 swingmen and picking up 2 power forwards? We have nothing at swingman then and a huge glut at bigs.Oh and how can we get Nene? We don't got cap room for him.
^Exactly, that goes along with what I posted a little bit ago...I don't think it's feasible for us to go after Nene, hell I actually wouldn't mind resigning KVH for the MLE like someone else on here suggested.
I think unless he just wants to stay here, it'd take more than the MLE to keep him...he's still a young guy, only 28 I beleive, so I wouldn't mind offering him a long term decent money contract anyways.
I agree that Dallas should try really hard to keep him. Hopefully we get him cheaper but he is too important to Dallas's success. Especially offensively and he can get some steals.
