Against the Spurs: 12 Points (5-6 shooting) and 4 Rebounds. He did have 4 Fouls, though. Again, in one of my responding posts in this thread, my conditional remark was if Greg goes down for the season. In that case, I think would take more than Joel, LMA, and Outlaw for bigs. Frye's better than, both, S-Bo and Ruffin.
OK, I am shocked by this thread. Did you watch the game? Channing Frye took 1 shot, it was an outside shot. He went to shoot, decided to pass, then shot the ball - and missed. We can't afford to have guys hesitant out there. He was, and he was yanked. There may also have been situational reasons for him being yanked, but hesitation is a definite no-no IMHO. That being said, I actually think CF is playing better than earlier in the season. At least now if a defender runs at him with abandon, he will actually put the ball on the floor and go around him. He wasn't doing that at the beginning of the season - still recovering from his injury is my guess. CF made it into the league with quickness. He has regained a little of it - he needs still more.
I don't disagree that he's better than S-Bo and Ruffin, but I think we could put anybody else on our roster out there and do similar things to what he does... which is shoot outside. *shrug* I guess we'll just agree to disagree. Frye is a tall guy but he doesn't play big and I'd rather have a more skilled and effective little guy out there than a tall guy who's a waste of space. Ed O.
OK. Speaking of your "rathers", I suppose that just leaves LMA and T.O. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out. Go Blazers!
also, I noticed while Frye was in the game they were getting a lot more 2nd chance points. He wasn't rebounding which is why Nate brought him in
Except neither would come here? They are looking for the ring. But I'm sure that's KP's fault to huh?
Why would we get in the market for them, when as soon as they are released they are going to either SA, CLE, or BOS? That's what all the big name's that get bought out do at this point. Now you are grasping at straws to make your point.
Grasping at straws? Where's your evidence we didn't have a chance? We are a playoff team with a RICH owner. Why wouldn't we be able to make a pitch to any of these free agents unless we didn't want to?
Because we are not a championship team this year. There is no way Gooden or Joe Smith sign with us, zero. You'll have to find something else to complain about....
I think that Diogu is a better player than Frye. We could have sent Frye out, instead of Ike. How's that for a complaint? Ed O.
OK, I concede. (topples over King) When I saw Frye going into last night's game, I took an appropriate swig off my beer, then said to myself, "C'mon, Channing! Prove me right, prove me right. This is your perfect opportunity in an important game, big fella. Show us what you've still got!" But, alas, no. He was just floating around out there taking up space, getting schooled on defense, attempting to lay some picks (although, he sure appeared to not want anything to do with hard contact), while also collecting silly fouls.................generally sucking while Denver was kicking our collective hindquarters. (BTW, the +/- revealed that the Blazers lost a point for ever minute Frye was in the game.) So, then, I now climb back down off my Channing Frye soapbox, dust myself off, lick a few wounds, splash some water on my face, comb my hair, then head home for a good, long nap. I need one!
Frye looked good and was quite effective in the SA game on Sunday. Why? Because when he first got into the game, he attacked the rim, made a couple high percentage lay-ups and got fouled. By initially putting the ball on the floor and attacking the basket, forced the defense to back-off and deny the drive which then opened things up for his jumper. This is what he needs to do to earn consistent minutes. If he's just going to be passive on offense and limit himself to being a spot-up jump shooter, there are better guys on the roster to fill that role - and they will get the minutes, not him. BNM
It's a very small sample size, but Frye played very well against San Antonio last Sunday (12 points on 5-6 shooting, 4 rebs and got to the line twice) at home. As I mentioned previously, we he can into the game he was very aggressive in putting the ball on the floor and attacking the basket. Against Inidiana he didn't play much as Nate went with a smaller line-up and gave Travis almost all the minutes at the back-up 4. Then on the road against Denver, he was very passive and just floated around the perimeter, and pretty much stunk it up. Last night against Minnesota, he came off the bench and again was very active and aggressive at both ends of the court. In 13 minutes he had 6 points, 5 rebs and a block. He also managed to get to the line again. So, is this just a home vs. away thing. Does Frye simply feed off the energy of the Rose Garden crowd and play with more aggression and confidence at home? He's also had a couple good game on the road (the 15 point/7 reb game in San Antonio a week and a half ago), but he certainly shoots the ball much better at home than on the road: Home: FG: 46-98 = 0.469 FG% 3FG: 5/12 = 0.385 3FG% FT: 14/18 = 0.778 FT% Road: FG: 33/100 = 0.333 FG% 3FG%: 3/12 = 0.250 3FG% FT: 8/12 = 0.667 FT% His shooting percentages at home are actually pretty respectable, but his shooting percentages on the road absolutely suck. He plays about the same minutes at home (12.4 MPG) as on the road (11.4 MPG), but both his scoring and rebounding averages are better at home (5.0 PPG and 2.6 RPG vs. 3.1 PPG and 2.0 RPG). He also gets to the line more over 50% more often at home (18 FTA in 273 minutes vs. 12 FTA in 284 minutes). I know Channing LOVES Portland, but this is ridiculous. Should Nate take this into account when making PT decisions for Frye (play him consistent minutes at home, but severely limit his minutes on the road)? In general, the team plays better at home than on the road, but Frye seem to take this difference to the extreme. And there's almost no difference between Outlaw's home vs. away numbers (12.5/4.2/1.0 vs. 12.4/4.2/1.0). Outlaw actually shoots the ball better on the road (0.464 FG% and 0.450 3FG%) than at home (0.445 FG% and 0.316 3FG%). He does get to the line more and shoot a better FT% at home, but other than that he's just as good (maybe even slightly better) on the road as at home. So, at home: more minutes for Frye (at least until Oden comes back), but give Travis almost all the back-up 4 minutes on the road. BNM
