Sorry if a topic has already been made. There wasn't a topic on this for the first twoe pages. So who do you think it should be? I'll say first that Mourning has been a very impressive defensive player, but he hasn't got enough playing time to get it dpoy. So because of that Marion is my pick because he is a defensive star in pretty much every way you can think of it and who has been the key to Phoenix having one of the more efficient defenses in the league despite their run and gun style.
It has to go to Bruce Bowen, Ben Wallace, or Shawn Marion. Someone from a good team. Someone consistent on the D end night in and night out. All three are skilled defenders, and are on killer teams.
I would go with marcus camby but he has been injured too much so im going with bruce bowen. he has been a great defender all season long for the spurs. he desevres to get it one time his career at least.
It has to be Bruce Bowen. He has been shutting people down all year. Ben Wallace hasn't been as dominant on defense as he has been in the past. Maybe losing a half step. Artest has been great on defense lately as well but hasn't played enough games so Bowen is my pick.
Ima have to go with The Matrix he is one of the best Deffensive players in the league right now. He can play big man or the guard position which makes him dangerous on " D " even more.
It's between two people for me.Artest, just look at what the Kings were before and after him, especially defensively. And Camby, my vote...he makes the Nuggs such a good team.
I think it will either be Marion or Bruce Bowen. Because...Ben has won it too many times...Camby was injured for like a month...Artest is not gonna win it because he wasn't playing for a while either. So the 2 candidates are Marion and Bowen. I actually changed my mind. I think it will be Marion. He guards guys 4 inches taller then him He gets a lot of bpg, he can defend guys like TD or Kevin Garnett well and he gets alot of boards.
Marion just got destroyed by Mohammad last game so just because he guards them doesn't mean he has success.
Mohammed is a center I dont know why the Suns had him guarding Mohammed. There is a huge difference between guarding a center and a PF, Marion does a good job guaerding the high post though.
On the second thought, If there was ever a year to share an award, it would be now. Is there a clear cut winner? Heck no. No one here believes one player wins it by a landslide, and equal cases can be made for everyone. Give every Defensive 1st Teamer the trophy
I would no doubt pick Shawn Marion. Not only is he an elite defender but unlike Bowen, Marion defends people in the post that are much bigger than him and he does fine. Not to mention all the secondary attributes such as his amazing rebounding and his shot blocking...and steals.
It's defintely Marion. He gets the assignments of guarding the other teams best player most of the time.
The word "secondary" hit me in a different way than intended. Bruce Bowen is a great defender, but he has all that help behind him, and the Spurs are one of maybe 5 NBA teams that actually play help defense...Marion on the other hand has no on behind him, and still does as good a job as Bowen. He has no secondary defense, which makes his defense that much better, not to mention his height disadvantages
I know its very unlikely, but how come Eric Snow doesnt get any recognition for DPOY? The 3rd quarter just ended in the Cavs-Lakers game on ABC and Kobe went 1-7 from the field in that quarter thanks to Eric Snow. This guy is really underrated defensively, and is always up to the task when it comes to defending other superstar players.

Plus the series of LA vs Philly years back. How about the last 5 minutes of this game, Kobe is going to the back and is getting hacked, no calls. Pretty bad when the announcers are pointing it out often.
