http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/57716/20090305/d_wade_i_merit_mvp_consideration/ if this was the criteria... i agree with wade, Kobe would have clearly won it on 05-06 and 06-07 since the lakers were lottery bound without him. cp3 would have won it last year and wade would win it this year because the heat are also lottery bound without him lol but its not... its best player or player with the most impact on the best team
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP I agree with Wade's criteria. But I don't agree last year was Paul's year. Kobe should've won #3 last year.
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP I wouldn't call 4 games above .500 MVP. By that criteria, Lebron is the MVP. Not Wade.
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP I absolutely agree with Wade's opinion of how to choose MVP. Kobe deserved the MVP most in the 2005-06 season, come on - 35.4PPG/5.3RPG/4.5APG/1.8SPG and dropped 31.6PPG/5.7RPG/5.3APG the next season ??? Talk about stats again...
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP I just look playoff team, with a player that has absurd numbers, then the supporting cast around that player, while trying to imagine what that team would be without that player. ex: Lakers - No Kobe = Playoff Team Cleveland - No LeBron = Possible Playoff Team (The East is not as strong as the West) NewOrleans - No CP3 = @ home during the playoffs Miami - No Wade = Owned
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP Well thats just like your opinion...man There are no set guidelines at all...Ive searched
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP So what about Bron and Kobe being on playoff teams? They've put up individual stats before when they didn't have teams. Kobe has exploded after Bynum got injured, him most of all was sacrificing his stats. Lakers aside, Bron dominated the league last year, why would he not have that ability anymore if his team sucked? The award should go to the best player, not this weird "who has the least depth" argument.
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP In all fairness, Wade probably should be this years MVP. The Heat are maybe a 12-15 win team without him and wouldn't even sniff the playoffs. Instead, they're en route to 40+ wins and have a shot at the 4 seed in the East. Also, to whomever said the Lakers are a playoff team without Kobe, no chance. Maybe in the East they would be, but not in the West.
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP The Heat sucked last year because Wade sucked and he missed games. That's the only reason they were a 15 win team with him. The fourth seed is a joke in the East.
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP I think Lakers are still a playoff team without Kobe. Come on, they have Bynum, Gasol, Odom, Fisher, Ariza, and others, not including Vujacic and Farmar, whom have been terrible this season. Without Kobe, Lakers would still have a respectable starting line-up. Without Wade, Heat would be a D-League team. Honestly, I think either Kobe or LeBron deserve the award, but Wade's scoring ability is almost, or equal to, that of Kobe's.
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP Well, Kobe's scoring has been 34+ PPG per 39 minutes(same amount Wade plays) since Bynum got injured. He's the best scorer in the league, he just sits out so many 4th quarters and plays more meaningful games in the deeper conference.
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP But some of the moves Wade pulls even Kobe can't do. I remember reading somewhere that Kobe was trying to learn from Wade's offensive game during the Summer Olympics.
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP Not a chance. The reason why some of these guys are as effective as they are is because of Kobe. Pau is not good enough to lead a team, and Odom is not consistent enough to be a reliable #2 option. I don't know if Bynum would be as effective without Kobe either, because he gets some easier looks because of all the attention Kobe draws on the perimeter. Kobe is the absolute heart and soul of this team. Period. The Lakers are a lottery team without him because quite frankly, the West is too good.
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP I'll give you that, Pau hasn't been this dominant by himself, same for Odom. Bynum is great and all but he hasn't finished an entire season yet.
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP Wade makes Bron look like a great long distance shooter, that's the great equalizer. Kobe's playing better now than last year or in the Olympics.
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP Think about it this way, if the Heat and Lakers were to play each other, Lakers would win, but not dominate, with both Kobe and Wade healthy. However, if Kobe and Wade were not to play, Lakers would completely crush the Heat. In that sense, Wade's importance to the team outweighs Kobe, although Kobe's significance is also incredible.
Re: How D-Wade chooses his MVP Wade is good, but he's not on Kobe's level in terms of scoring. The biggest reason for this - Kobe can CONSISTENTLY hit jump shots. Wade is better this year, but his jumper is still erratic, especially in comparison to Kobe's.
