So this is the new rankings system. We weren't getting any participation in the last one so I've tried to simplify what we're doing. It is the same as an NBA power ranking system, wins and streaks put you up, losses put you down. I want people to argue over this so please criticize. I've intentionally set up this top-25 list with a bit of randomness so everyone can give input.
lol love the colour scheme, makes me think of those rocket candies you get at halloween. Can't wait until my son is older and I can 'check' his halloween candy every year
After this weekend when Rampage destroys Jardine he deserves the 11 spot instead of Shields. I think the difference in skill among their opponents is too great.
I agree choco. "I'm not impressed" with whom Shields has beaten. He's not facing the best 170 pounders in the world because he's not in the UFC. Rampage has been fighting and mostly beating the best 205'ers so he should be top 12 IMO.
Ok, Page moves up, Shields down. Please make more suggestions. How about Mir and Lesnar, where do they belong?
-I like how you have Mir ahead of Lesnar. I think Lesnar should be much lower. He beat a 44 yr old Couture and a gatekeeper in the texas crazy horse and that's it. He should be #25 or not on the list. I know that's harsh for the UFC HW champ, but the way he earned it is suspect IMO. He got a title shot because the 2 guys deserving of the title shot were coaching TUF. -Faber should be top12 or even top 10 too. He's 11-1 in the last 3 years and has been dominant in most of his fights. -Mousasi is top 10 p4p but he hasn't even faced at top 15 Middleweight. He should be lower. - Jon Fitch should be higher too. 8-1 in the last 3 years only losing to GSP. He's beat #2 Thiago Alves, Diego Sanchez and Gono. - to allow Fitch to move up, bump down Mir a bit and Maia who is undefeated but still has not faced top ten competition at MW yet.
I broke them into five tiers of five to make it easier. Who doesn't agree with the top five? Is Torres a stretch? Has Evans got the resume to be up there?
After BJ's loss I think Evans does belong there as 205 is the most start studded division on MMA. WW is the deepest IMO, but the name recognition and top talent goes to LHW. 35-1 make torres deserving. wow you really dumped Barnett down. hard to argue it though he hasn't faced the best competition since Pride went out. Mike Brown as a top ten P4P fighter?? does 3 quality wins in your career garner that? I guess with the next 5 grouping all have one L in their last 5 it does. Beating the #1 at you weight class does too. But is the depth of talent there at 145? If he loses to Faber, how far down do you drop him?
Well I put Shields, Barnett, Mousasi, Aldo and Maia near each other because of quality of opposition. Mike Brown crushed Faber and the number one contender Garcia. I'm not saying he's top ten P4P because our rankings aren't P4P. They are more of a "what have you done for me lately" list.
I think it looks fairly spot on right now. Sure you could argue to flip flop some fighters, but to me it looks good until after this weekend
Ah this is difficult because I think Faber is too low. Recently, he has that KO loss and that is all. He looked great against Pulver in the rematch.
I must be going blind cause I dont see Lesnar on our list. IMO if this is a power rankings list, fighters that have been inactive recently should be near the bottom. Like Demian Maia and Shane Carwin have been taking a lot of people out while in the UFC and Jake Shields hasn't fought in a long while. I am not sure how to work it but I think there could be some movements there. Man, I am really hating on Jake Shields, both my suggestions so far have been to move him down
