He didn't showboat...he made a smart play. He didn't take the foul for precisely the reason you wanted him to...it would have given Portland another chance to tie/win. He threw the ball down the court to burn the final moments of the game.
I've never understood why we didn't just pick the ball up. It wouldn't have been over and back since a Laker was the last person to touch it.
Well, the memory has dimmed a bit in my mind, but I don't think a Blazer was near it...he threw it down the court...its first bounce was near half-court.
From what I remember, one or two Blazers jogged behind it all the way down the court and could have easily picked it up.
The Blazers were all under the basket. They did go after it but by that time there was less than a second left and they had to inbound length of court.

Okay, it wasn't at all like I remembered it, he threw it more than rolled it and a Laker was the only player chasing it.
I don't hate the Lakers. For a few reasons: -- I'd prefer a Western team win to an Eastern team in most situations. -- Hating things and people is too much effort. -- Even when the Lakers have crushed the Blazers and my hopes, it's always seemed to have an air of inevitability in it... I can't hate an earthquake and I don't think I can hate the Lakers. I look forward to Portland having a superior team and beating them on the court and in the standings on a regular basis... but I can say that about every team in the NBA. Ed O.
I do not like the Lakers - but I do not "hate" them - I am a basketball fan and they play basketball. Still hope the Blazers crush them.
Oh please, you're totally taunting now. Pretty soon you're going to run out of scars inflicted by the Lakers and move on to Sean Elliot and Memorial Day. It might have been a mistake to mention that other incident...
what? <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UTgoI8MKZys&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UTgoI8MKZys&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
I used to be a Byron Scott fan, loved his game in the 80's. That was until I came around to my senses when 1990 hit and I turned 7, my hatred for the Lakers switched on. I hate LA!!
I brought that on myself. Now I have to go take something for the sharp stabbing the back of my left eye before the game starts. Oh wait, the Blazers going to put a beat down on whatever scrub team they play tonight. And afterwards, if there's any justice in basketball, DaRizzle will feel like he is passing a large kidney stone for the next 3 days... that would make me feel a lot better.
