Mavs-Nets preview12:34 AM CST on Sunday, March 19, 2006By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning NewsSeries: Mavericks lead, 1-0, this season; 29-21 all timeKEY MATCHUPVince Carter vs. Marquis Daniels: Carter is averaging just over 24 points and has averaged 26.5 points during the Nets' four-game winning streak. Carter, the fifth overall draft pick in 1998 (Dirk Nowitzki was ninth that year), was held to 17 points in the January game at American Airlines Center. Daniels has been rolling as a starter with Josh Howard and Adrian Griffin out but will have a tough defensive test today. On the mark, again: Jason Terry has made at least one 3-pointer in the last 47 games, extending his franchise record each time the Mavs play. He's made 40 of his last 83 from beyond the arc and is averaging 21 points in the last 13 games. He's shooting just over 53 percent overall in that span.Briefly: They have won 11 consecutive games against the Nets, their longest run of success against any team in the league, except New Orleans. ... They crushed the Nets, 110-77, at Dallas in January, when Josh Howard had a season-best 29 points. He will not play today.Inside the NetsLost in the shuffle: Jason Kidd recently had a zero-point game, and the Nets still won. He had seven assists, six rebounds and four steals. He remains one of the most versatile players in the league, although his shooting of late has been deplorable (5-of-24 in the last three games).Briefly: Jason Kidd has four career triple-doubles against the Mavs, including one last season. ... Kidd has 73 career triple-doubles. The Mavericks have 27 in franchise history. ... The Nets haven't beaten the Mavs since March 2, 2000.PROBABLE STARTERSMavericks Pos. I don't know what it is about these morning games but the mavs just looked horrible out there. Terry I blame the most for this game. It seemed his head wasn't in the game though almost everyone struggled. Also Dallas had no answer for Richard Jefferson.

Well when Dirk is the only guy in Double figures, that's a bad sign...oh and the fact that he scored 38 and we still lost was horrible. Now, I beleive this was just a situation where our injuries and playing inexperienced players finally caught up to us.Allthough, toward the end of the game, when Dirk, Terry, Diop, and Damp were on the bench, we go the lead down to around 7...and that was with DA, Marquis, Rawle Marshall, Powell, and MBenga in there...it was actually impressive to watch that squad of backups fight there way back into the game...

Didn't see the game but read about it through boards, and Dirk was part of the reason we fell behind so early.Too bad, he's the only who decided to play in the 2nd half. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Now, I beleive this was just a situation where our injuries and playing inexperienced players finally caught up to us.</div>It's expected, I'm seeing 4th seed more and more. We have a tough end to the year, I can't see us pulling off enough victories for 1st.

You know, as much as I'd hate to get the 4th seed, I want us healthy more than the 1 seed, and I do believe we need the 1 seed. But this is like the 3rd game in the last 2 weeks he started like 2-11 or something...but still got 25-30 plus points...Sometimes Dirk is just unstoppable for half a game or so.
