Is that why he got a flagrant II and will probably get suspended?

Stepping back, I have to admit I am acting pretty silly about all of this. It's kind of a pissing contest to see who's more mad about Ariza, isn't it?

Anyway, I'll calm down. Rudy's going to be okay (fingers crossed), and maybe Pau will give Ariza a reason to feel unsafe at night (fingers also crossed).

Ed, you're a reasonable chap. Too reasonable sometimes, but I can't hold that against you. Good on ya for not dropping down to our level.

Yup. Just like bynum's hard foul, despite the intent to go after the ball, the other player got hit pretty hard. That's why he got a flag 2. Shouldn't be suspended though.

I've chosen to not speak out on this latest skirmish up until now in fear that I would say something regretful...

I've had enough time to gather myself and thoughts to develop my own stance on this whole thing, so here it goes.

Any Laker fan who claims Ariza was "good natured" and had no "intent" behind the foul is an idiot or blind.
Any Blazer fan who claims it was all malicious is also displaying obvious signs of homerism.

It's a very hard foul, without question. You simply cannot wave your arms across another players body, when both are going at full speed, miss the ball completely, whack Rudy across the dome and expect not to get tossed. It's a dangerous play on the ball and Dick B. made the correct Flagrant 2 call REGARDLESS of the Ariza reaction afterwards.

Odom could likely be fined, but probably not suspended for leaving the bench. He did make his way out onto the baseline past the 3-point line, so technically he did "cross the line" so to speak.

Ariza should be fined, probably not suspended. If he becomes a repeat offender then you start issuing further punishment. If he said it wasn't malicious, believe him, but if it happens again, punish his ass.

Roy, LA, Travis could be fined, but far less likely than Odom and Ariza. They were protecting their teammate, not venting built up frustration after Portland opened up a can of whoop-ass on them.

Great win the Portland Trailblazers. And, if anyone was questioning Portland's toughness and perceived "softness" around the NBA, it certainly has to be gone now. No one by the name of Joel or Jerryd was in the skirmish, it was all "nice guys" on the team.

Maybe this was the game we needed to get that competitive chip on our shoulder and send us into the next level of the NBA.

Fans are understandably fired up and emotional about that play, especially when it involves the Lakers. We just want to vent and call Ariza and LA a bitch, that's all.

    *blush* Thanks.

I hope we get to beat the Lakers five more times this year and Rudy's a big part of it. :)

I dunno. I guess some of us are fans who react with emotion after a punk-ass foul by a Laker. I suppose we can't all be robots. :dunno:

This kind of behavior is totally warranted after tonight's scuffle.

And no one's saying you can't vent, certainly not me. This just seems like a strange thing to fight with other posters about.

Ed also didn't say you couldn't vent...he simply had a different opinion on the foul.

If people are going to argue against our emotional outbursts, there's going to be some emotional reactions as well. It's just part of being a fan.
It's like telling someone who's having the worst day of his life that everything is fine and just enlighten up a bit. Probably the last thing that guy wants to hear.

That's not what Ed said, though. He gave his opinion on the play. He didn't tell others what to think or feel. People just got angry that Ed didn't agree with them and rant also.

It's an obvious passive-aggressive tactic to keep telling that person everything is OK. I imagine the poster in question knew exactly what he was doing by calling the foul "semi-understandable" because Batum and Rudy were celebrating earlier in the game.

You have already demonstrated (and admitted) that your reading comprehension in this thread leaves something to be desired. I would advise, if you care at all about accuracy, that since you have difficulty reading the actual lines, you should probably stop trying to read between them.

Here is Ed's initial post on the subject. Surely you can see why some people would react emotionally when he calls the foul "semi-understandable" and calls out Batum and Rudy specifically for being the reason.

Are you saying that your emotional outburst is "semi-understandable"?

You "would advise" me? Thanks for the unsolicited advice. What are the ramifications if I don't follow your advice? At least I don't have a problem admitting that I read something wrong.

I think that's what got most people worked up over. When you're emotional and worked up, the last thing you want to hear and read are differing opinions. We just wanted to hear what we want to hear, and that's calling the Lakers and everything LA the worst thing in the world.

Let's just say what's common sense or what makes sense goes out the window when you're a fired up, emotionally-attached fan who's living in the moment of seeing one of your players seriously hurt by your arch rival in a game when you're up 30.
