Not too often that it's the case, but for last night at least Kobe Bryant was only the second best shooting guard on the court. Bryant: 26 pts (38% shooting) 3 reb, 3 assists, 0 st, 1 to, 1 bl, 5 pf, 39 min Roy: 27 pts (44% shooting), 6 reb, 5 assists, 1 st, 1 to, 0 bl, 1 pf, 38 min Nice job, Brandon.
Yup, loved it. It took Kobe 29 shots to get 26 points. Fail. It took Brandon 18 shots to get 27 points. Win! It even took Travis just 11 shots to get 22 points. Win!
i was more impressed by the fact that, after halftime and down 23, you knew K*be was going to start playing K*beBall, and trying to win by himself. The lead increased to 30.
Have fun, guy. Your favourite team beat a top team. Portland might still make the playoffs (though, granted, it's a huge longshot). Life is good. Right?
It's not even a question given their age difference. If they were the same age we'd all take Kobe, but Roy's going to be winning titles for us after Kobe's out of the league (unless Kobe wants to hold on for a while, which he's obviously capable of doing - I don't question his ability).
For the next 15 years and to fit our championship window? Brandon all the way. And do you really think a 'true' Blazer fan would trade Brandon for Kobe? I hope not.
Meh, Kobe has those off nights every now and then. If I recall correctly, Roy was less than stellar himself for a stretch on the road.
I know I wouldn't ever even think about trading Roy for Kobe even if they were the same age. I really wouldn't want Kobe on my team even though I know he is a great player maybe the best or second best player in the league right now.
Nah. I'm not a "checkmate" kind of guy. First, as I pointed out in my initial post, it's unusual for Kobe not to be the best 2G on the court. Second, the competition between Kobe and Brandon isn't over, so I couldn't say, "checkmate", even if I were that kind of guy. Thankfully for us fans, these two players are going to go head to head many times in the future. I, for one, am looking forward to watching those competitions.
Yeah, if that was the first NBA game somebody saw, they'd think Roy was the better player. He had the better game, but usually does play well vs. Kobe (if not outplay him).
It was great to see Kobe revert back to his "ME VERSUS THE WORLD!" mentality. The Lakers came completely unglued.
What impressed me the most was that the L*kers defensive gameplan was to protect K*be from Roy. You'll never hear Jackson praise a player on another team, but the fact that he was afraid that one of the best defensive SG's in the game was going to get into foul trouble by guarding Brandon tells me all I need to know about his opinion of Roy.
