I may be biased, but I'd go Dirk...only because he's probably the biggest nigtmare matchup problem in the NBA...KG is the better post player, Dirk the better outside player...but if you broke it down to team success, the Mavs have been better during Dirks career than the Wolve's have been during KG's.
I don't know man, they both are comparable in all those stats, with KG being a slightly better rebounder and a better defener...passing wise, especially this year, they break even, and Dirk is more of a scorer and matchup problem than KG...but not by much.Let's just say I wouldn't trade Dirk for KG strait up as it pertains to either team.
On my team i'd take Garnett without a doubt. He'd complement kobe so well, does all the little things and doesn't need to take the scoring load.
Why does everyone want Garnett on the Lakers so bad? Kobe had a Shaw-like figure in LA of 8 years or so, and although it resulted in 3 CHampionships, nearly all of those years were big feuds over who gets the ball. I wouldn't see that changing if Garnett came. Kobe is just too selfish
Garnett is talented but he can't carry a team. He needed Cassell to do that a couple years ago. He is like Marion and does the little things but he can't carry the load scoring wise.
definitely kg. he's more physical and a much better rebounder. dirk is a better shooter but i think kg is better in every other area.

I'd go talent wise KG, whose a better around player then Dirk. Dirk's the better shooter with range, and better 4th quarter player. KG is a better defender, passer(Dirk's improving), rebounding I'd call a wash. KG's stats can be misinformed because of the rosters he's had.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>KG is the better post player</div>I question his post game nowadays, when it has become basically a fadeaway jumper half the time.
You know Roc...now that I've thought back to most of the games I've seen him play, he has given up alot on his post game. So I'd give the edge to Dirk offensively, who still drives to the hole, and still steps back...the thing I think he's improved, is that he does drive and doesn't just post up automatically like he's done in the past.I'd give him the edge over Dirk in passing and defensive game, although I agree Dirk has improved immensely in both areas...Rebounding is a wash as far as I'm concerned.
Well when you the only guy on the team that can rebound, you'll put up 20 rebounds...But then again you may be right there...I do think Dirks passing is severely underrated, as is his defense, at least this year.
Maybe so, but Garnett is arguably the most versatile defender in the league and he's a great passer for a 7 footer, I don't think Dirk can compete.
See I think you severly underrate Dirks passing...Alot of people are still going off the perception of Dirk as a no defending, no passing outside shooter, when his game has become so much more versatile...I think his passing and rebounding is even to KG, maybe KG has the edge Rebounding, slightly. While Dirk is better offensively, and KG is slightly better defensively.
No Kevin has the all-around game that Dirk lacks, he's more athletic, he's a decent outside shooter, a very versatile scorer and defender also. Dirk can't play defense and he's not as athletic as KG which puts him at a disadvantage in most aspects of the game.
KG doesn't have the offense repertoire that Dirk has. Dirk is way better creating off the dribble. There is a reason Minnesota is struggling on offense this year. Garnett is not a go to guy. His stats look good but it isn't getting the job done. I think Garnett needs a superstar offensive player on his team like Kobe. Otherwise the team can't rely on his offense to take them anywhere. Therefore Dirk's team success means more than Garnett's stats.
But see if Kg were to come to LA he knows who's team it was. Back in the day Shaq and kobe were struggling over who's team it was.Kg also doesn't demand the ball like shaq does.edit: And everything mavsfans said is correct. Kg's stats are fancy but there's more to basketball then putting up fancy stats in garbage time.
Like they both said above me, the stats are fine...but Dirk is the better offensive player cause he's just as good with without the ball in his hands, as he is with it...KG needs someone to take pressure off of him, and to get him the ball...Dirk is really the only 7 footer in the league that can take the ball from throwin to the hoop at any given time.Alot of guys are either the type that need the ball in their hands, like most of the SG's in the league, and some guys are catch and shoot guys, and need to be set up...Dirk isn't either one of those...he can do both, and that's the big difference between him and KG.And once again, while KG has been the better defender throughout his career, I really think you guys are underestimating his value on defense, especially this year.Look at it this way, there is no way that the Mavs improve as much defensively as they have this year, without Dirk stepping up his defense too. You can't just get a bunch of role players that play D without the #1 guy on the team doing the same thing.
