How long is too long to wait for "potential" before you declare a player a bust?

Well it depends on the team and situation.See a player like Darko has been slapped with the "Bust" label already, even though he never even had a chance to play any significant playing time, and that he's just 20 years old or so.I mean, if your drafted as a Guard, and your backing up J Kidd and VC in NJ, you won't have a chance to be any good. Then you got the players like Kwame, who might have been rushed into playing alot of minutes, but still hasn't quite panned out.In truth, this is an "It's your opinion" type deal...you may say Darko is a bust, I wouldn't...everyone could have different ideas.

I'd say about four years, unless they have barriers in the way (backing up a star, injuries, etc.)

When they end their career is when you know for sure:) but probably after 300-400 games with at least 15-20 mpg you know if they are a bust or decent player.

I agree with Marvinmartian. It depends on the type of player, mostly. If he's a HUGE project like Ha Seung-Jin for Portland, then hell, it will take 4, 5, or 6 years for him to develop into a legit center. But you cant declare someone a bust just because they dont get the playing time to showcase their skills. They were picked high in the draft for a reason. Kwame, on the other side, is trash offensively, or he just doesnt have confidence to improve on the offensive end. But from what I've heard, is that he is defensively decent, which means there is SOME use for him. So you know when a player is a bust is when they have no skill. No skill offensively, no skill defensively, or no effort or heart. And you can tell that of a player at some stage in their career.

I think it's pretty safe to call Ha Sueng-Jin a bust. That guy has no skill set whatsoever. He's just a big body.. :no3:

If they spent four years in college then I give them 2 or 3 years to show something. But if they came out of hs it's gonna take atleast 5 years for them to develop their skill set and turn into a decent player. Also guards are alot easier to develop then Centers.
