If you were the NBA commish for one year what would you do and why? what would you change? Be creative
First of all I would make it where you could actually touch someone while you were on defense, and not get a foul. (Put your hand on someone)No telling how much things I would want to change..
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Lazy @ Mar 19 2006, 04:33 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Change playoffs to pure power rankings and not by division <Censored></div>I agree.
Playoffs are one round, 16 games, instead of 2 round, 8 games. Team with the best 16 records play, regardless of conference or division. That way the best teams play
The playoffs would be a combination with a re-seeding based on record, with the top 16 teams playing a best three, then top 8 play best five, final 4 and champs play best seven. Also, the season would only be 66 games (16 in the divisions they have now, 2 games against each team outside your division). Next, the draft would be worst to first, because lotteries are not fair to the worse teams. All games on Sunday would be played at or before 6PM because it brings families in. The Slam Dunk Winner gets a million dollars (well half, the other half goes to their charity choice). Dress Code is only in effect arriving and leaving the arena. Move the three point line to 24'. Lessen the calls on the perimeter. Add a fourth ref, but only two can make foul calls, but anyone can call technicals or flagrant fouls (much like hockey). Have a salary cap floor and ceiling. Make the salary cap a $2-$1 luxury tax, where one dollar goes to the leauge, the other dollar gets spread among the teams. Any team can get rid of one contract without it counting towards the cap, but one contract can be voided for the length of that contract. Expand the draft two rounds, make 10 d-league teams with each team giving four players to a "d"team and a coach. Players can be taken in the draft after their high school class graduates or at age 18, but all players must be two years removed from their first eligble draft to play in NBA. Players can play DLeague or college, their choice. Players cannot re-enter draft later, they are on that team for the next five-six years (two years + rook contract). Trades can be done without regard of contract value. Preseason is two weeks of practice, a week of games. All Star Weekend will be Rooks V Soph on Friday, 3Pt-Slam Dunk-3on3 saturday, game Sunday. 3on3 is any three players in the league who want to play together.
I would definately change the playoffs, at least back to where the first round were only 5 games at least...and the seeding 1-8, but leave it by conference...
1. Bring back handchecking 2. Get rid of the three point line 3. Get rid of the dress code 4. No fines for swearing or ripping refs 5. Hang Larry Brown during all-star weekend
Well the handchecking and Larry Brown ones are okay I guess...-But the 3 point line is an intricate part of the game.-You have to protect the Refs...and while they aren't always right, they can't fear the Players or coaches.-I don't think the dress code is all that bad, and after all the fuss the players put up before it, I haven' heard a peep out of them since.
The three point line an intricate part of the game? It's only been in the game for 26 years and it ruins basketball. Steve Kerr of all people supports it being taken away.

And the three point line, I guess it's up to your preference, it would definately limit jumpshots being taken. It just depends on what you like, more drives/inside play, or long jumpers.
3 point shots makes the game more exciting for some people and it supports comebacks. It will never be taken away.Personally, I would get rid of the reaching fouls and, make it easier for the defender rather the offensvie player.
