It's like baseball, except that there are no pitchers, no bats used, the ball is kicked and points are based on where the ball ends up, not where a player ends up.

Other than that, they're very similar. Except soccer has a clock. And offense and defense transition back and forth in soccer.

Um, it's only 3-2 if the missing $15 million is accounted for at this point. So really, there still isn't a deal.

im a big Timbers fan but this whole deal just doesnt sit right with me. i think they're getting in way too over their heads.

perhaps i'll be wrong, but im not convinced PDX could support a team in terms of attendance and big time corporate sponsors.

but most importantly for me is that they dont move the Beavers out to 82nd or wherever. if it's 100% guaranteed to keep it close and in the RQ, then i'll be ok.

just hate to see that ivy wall torn down, the max running by the outfield fence is a thing of beauty.

Actually Timber attendance has been going up. This quote is dated 5/25/07 from PGE Park's website.
Heres more attendance info on the year Timber Jim was retiring. Again, numbers went up.

I'm certain Timber attendance is increasing, but the question is whether or not it's enough to support an MLS-only stadium. Here in Denver, they built Dick's Sporting Park as soccer only and it's had some trouble.

I agree. Seems ridiculous to me that the MLS has the pull to demand their teams play in a soccer only stadium. I'd be much happier if PGE Park was being renovated (again) to accomidate both MLS and the Beavers.

Would U of P play their soccer games at this new stadium?

If Beckham comes to town, my wifes going to want to go. UGH!

That's because they built it way out in BFE in Commerce City. I have a ton of friends and family spread all around the Denver area in Broomfield, Littleton, Cherry Creek, Boulder, Longmont, Berthoud, Parker, etc., and none of them ever have any desire to go way out to Commerce City. It was a stupid idea to build it there and I think its success or failure has no bearing whatsoever on the success of this refurbished stadium in downtown Portland.

It would essentially be on par with building a stadium in Newberg or Estacada.

Why is it ok for the Sounders to play in Qwest field? That isn't soccer specific.

While I agree that Commerce City sucks, it's a lot closer in than Newberg or Estacada. It's more equivalent to Gresham. Now if you're driving from Littleton, then it's a haul.

Here are the directions from Downtown Denver: http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Den...merce City&2s=CO&2a=6000 Victory Way&2z=80022

No. Remember last year, the Pilots hosted the first round, second and third round at home. The female Pilots have a good crowd gathering for their games but not enough that their seating capacity is inadequate for their stadium.

I would only imagine NCAA would be hosting a womens quarter final soccer match at PGE park.
