Former Seahawks fullback to become dream Weaver for Eagles?

A source close to the Philadelphia Eagles tells the Philadelphia Inquirer that the team will make a play for fullback Leonard Weaver.

The Eagles lacked a power-running complement to Brian Westbrook in 2008, and Weaver would certainly fit the bill. The 242-pounder can obviously help in blocking schemes, and is also a deft receiver out of the backfield. This versatility inspired Weaver's agent, Harold Lewis, to tell the Inquirer, "He's definitely not the average bear."

As of now, Weaver has not made any free agent visits, which would lead some to believe that his return to the Seattle Seahawks is likely. On the other hand, much of the action in the early weeks of free agency is geared around the marquee players and positions, and while Weaver is one of the better hybrid fullbacks in the league, fullback is not ordinarily considered a marquee position. In addition to the Eagles, the St. Louis Rams, San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints are all expected to take a close look at Weaver.
