So I get a nice coupon for 15% accessories from the local Toyota dealer and I decide to use it on the purchase of a cargo net for my bad ass Yaris. It says it's easy installation on the plastic bag it's in. So I buy it thinking it's a matter of popping off a couple of rubber stoppers on the sides of my trunk with a plastic spatula (included of course) and replacing them with rubber hooks to hang the net from. As a general rule I try to stay as far away from manual labor as I can but I tell myself, "I've got this".

So I get home, open the package and start the "easy installation" process.

    1. Install Hardware.

    (a) Open rear hatch door. - done

    (1) Apply vehicle protection (blanket) to rear sill and fascia - I look in the package, these are not included, I go with plan B, a ratty old towel.

    (b) Remove cargo cover (not shown). - huh?

    (c) Remove the trunk floor liner and tire jack storage bins (Fig. 1-1). - Ah, visual aides, sweet!

    (d) Locate and cut out templates. - Templates?!? Just show me where the rubber stopper thingy is!!!

    (e) Tape the template to the vehicle as shown (Fig. 1-2) - If you could just draw a picture and put an "X" where the rubber stopper thingy is we don't NEED a template.

    (f) Center punch the right rear location onto the rear plastic trim panel (Fig. 1-3) - Uhhh, did they just instruct me to cut or punch a hole in my car?!?

At this point I decided to read the rest of the instructions before continuing.

    (g) Set the drill stop to 5mm (Fig 1-4).
    (h) Using a 1/4" or 6.35mm diameter drill bit, drill the right rear panel hole, vacuum up any debris, and remove drilling template (Fig 1-5)

That's it, I'm done reading. Are they trying to tell me that using power tools and putting holes in metal that's thicker than aluminum foil is easy installation? Are they serious?!? Is there some standard definition of what easy installation means? If so, they need to rethink it! Should I let Senator Wyden know about this or is he too busy with the collapsing economy and war?
