Yes, he's had a fuck up in each of the last two games, but I can't stand people who think he can't play at all or say he is useless on the fast break. Did you forget the guy shares the ALL TIME NBA record with 14 assists in one quarter?
THe only thing I want Blake doing is shooting 3s. I don't want to see him leading a fast break, I don't want to see him dribbling the ball, I don't want to see him trying to thread the needle, & I don't want to see him trying to guard Kobe Bryant. He's one of our best 3 point shooters. He, like Joel, should know his limitations.
But he did it so well when he got the 14 assists. It got to the point where we just gave him the ball and let him create. It showed me how great he can be. He plays a certain role on this team, but his ability exceeds that role.
Tony Delk once scored 50 points in a game. Blake an an unbelievable quarter where everything went his way. I don't ever count on him doing that ever again. His role is to shoot 3s and his ability is limited in everything else that is required of a basketball player. I don't hate the guy, but he is a liability to the team if his shot isn't falling.
OUR PG SITUATION IS FLAT OUT UGLY. Steve Blake is not a starter on a quality team. Hes a good backup which hopefully is his role next year assuming hes here. i doubt it. Blake has really been bad the last 5-6 games. looks a little nervous in crunch time. his defense vs harris was a complete JOKE. Made a few big shots but also made a huge turnover vs dallas and NJ! As for those other worthless midgets we have, it seems to get worse each game instead of better. Ever notice as soon as they come in, leads on the other side grow or disappear? With batums recent play, im beginning to think blazers will go after andre miller at full force. miller is an absolute perfect fit for us and then blake off the bench. bayless isnt ready. sergio hopefully will be playing his last few games next month. poor maris.
C'mon. Pass to the three point line, then watch your teammate pump fake and go to the basket? That's an assist, right? Ed O.
I was at that game, cheering each assist, but thinking the entire time: "If we're on the road, Blake's got 9 assists this quarter. Not 14". But I'm a Blake h8er. So take that as your peril.
I remember years ago Laker fans saying that Stocktons assists numbers were inflated because of the generous Utah home stat keepers, and I asked if they honestly felt that the Lakers home stat guys didn't pad Magic's stats too.
Blake is a pretty good backup PG, I think. He just doesn't defend well enough nor beat people off of the dribble enough for my tastes. When he's hitting his three pointers he can help the team, but given the spotty nature of that sort of skill, I'd prefer to have a PG that does something more easily replicable (very good defense, for example, or drawing fouls/getting to the line). I'm glad he's in Portland, but PG is the one spot (along with backup PF) where we clearly need to improve this summer. Ed O.
Outside of the Clipper game, he has been pretty sub-par since coming back from injury. I really think he should be a backup point guard as he is a now a one trick pony. Bayless looked solid passing the rock out there last night and his D is so much better. Just give him the keys..let him get his feet wet now. He won't screw up if he knows he will get playing time. Blake's decision making is much worse right now than Jarrett was last year..and at leas Jack was able to play some D and attack the hoop. If Blake is not hitting from 3, what does he bring to the table? I'd love him to be our backup pooint guard, but don't really want him starting anymore.
has bayless stopped jumping before he passes the ball? no, then he's still not ready for the PG spot. it's sad that our 3 PG's all have a specific skill that is very nice to have, but that's all they have. we have a good passing PG, a good shooting PG, and a decent rook that is more of a SG than a PG. hopefully we go after a tough vet at that spot in the off season.
I can't stand the Blake defenders. Are you guys retarded? Do you honestly look at this guy and go wow, he's so good!! HIS ONLY ASSET IS HIS 3-POINTERS. He sucks at running an offense (dump it off to brandon or LMA and stand around the 3 point line) He sucks at penetrating to the hole. He sucks at finishing at the rim. He's prone to turnovers late in games (a consistent pattern these past few months). He has horrible court vision for a PG. He's one of the worst fast break decision makers for a PG. He's slow, and can't defend anyone. Freaking Sebastian Telfair was lighting him up. Really? Can you honestly say you trust steve blake in crunch time? He's a backup point guard, and nothing more. You're delusional if you think he's going to be the starter on a championship squad.
Good points all. Now, find me the posters who are advocating Blake being the long-term solution at PG. If by defending Blake your mean "accepting his limitations and not bitching about them every day", then I suppose that I am a Blake defender as well.
Bayless has been an absolutely chronic failure as a PG, and it baffles the mind how anyone can watch him play without noticing how badly he gets picked, fooled and beaten by his opponent play after play after play... The team as a whole looks confused and out of position waiting for some hint of direction from him and we have lost ground nearly every time he has played. Yeah, he had 3 decent games but was functioning mostly as a SG in those and the other 30 or so where he brought quick, stupid fouls and weak team defense are really all we can expect from him this year. To attack Blake's decision making makes no sense. He is easily the most careful PG in the league, and makes very few mistakes. If anything, his lack of risk-taking is his shortcoming.
