I wonder if he says similar stuff about Russia? Blatter is making a good argument, but he has an idiotic reason for it. MLS teams do need to get their own stadiums, but moving the schedule to a European August to May format wouldn't work. How would a game work in New England, Chicago, New York, Toronto, or Columbus in December and January? Then there's Philly next season the possible addition of another Canadian team and 6 or 7 of the league's teams will be in ridiculous weather for a significant portion of the season.
That's a good point though. I personally think MLS clubs should have their own stadium to spread the popularity of the sport. Although sharing stadiums saves millions, there will be much more attraction to a team if it has its own stadium.
Well if you build indoor stadiums, then the weather shouldn't be a problem. IMO the season should be aligned to what Europe has, that way you keep up to other leagues, and compete for players etc. Still a long road ahead for MLS though.
If they did switch the months the MLS were played, I think they would lose a drastic amount of fans. There are so many other sports on during the summer and spring seasons.
Indoor stadiums? No thanks. I feel as though that would add unnecessary expense. The teams should get their own realistically sized stadiums. Unplayable weather is the first reason why they shouldn't go to Europe's schedule and Main Event brings up the second. MLS would be competing with NFL, NHL (which wouldn't be too much competition), NBA, and college sports. When the cold weather Euro countries make the illogical switch, the US could consider it. What should be changed is that the MLS needs to recognize the FIFA match calendar and not schedule on those days.
