If that's true, F that. Mullin was pretty good after he got over the Dunleavy/Foyle/Fisher debacle. And at least with Dunleavy we got either Harrington or Sjax for him and additionally it only cost us Ike Diogu (who would end up getting too injured to play any meaningful minutes).
Yeah, that's jacked. Robert Rowell is a nobody who wants to be the man. He wants his name to be known in basketball. The problem is he's never touched a basketball. He's never even sniffed a D-League jockstrap (not that he hasn't tried). He's a baby-boomer office exec who knows nothing about the game but with whom Cohan has entrusted the most important basketball decisions. Seriously, check this guy out: http://www.nba.com/warriors/news/rowell_president_060903.html When Rowell made the worst move in NBA GM history by giving Jack the good faith early extension, he compounded that idiotic move by then inserting himself into the media limelight trying to get himself some attention. Man was that situation a laugher. Here's a couple of good reads in Steinmetz's blog: http://www.examiner.com/x-441-Golden-State-Warriors-Examiner~y2008m10d4-Its-clear-that-team-president-Robert-Rowell-is-making-some-of-Warriors-basketball-decisions http://www.examiner.com/x-441-Golden-State-Warriors-Examiner~y2008m12d3-Robert-Rowell-talks-Baron-Davis-Monta-Ellis-and-Stephen-Jackson-extension-on-KNB Nice hair. I like this quote on why Jack dealt with him instead of Mully: He's so proud of himself here. He gets a real bang out of being the team president. He could have sidestepped the question, but he wanted to make sure it was known that the rumor was true and that Mullin had no part of the deal. In hindsight, Mullin is probably stoked that he had no part of that mess, because it was an idiot's idea. Well, it's a shame, because Mullin was just about rounding into form as a very savvy young GM, and now he's going to go help some other team get better. And we will be stuck with Robert Rowell, a 5-foot 5-inch flabby belly spiked-hair office dweller who wouldn't know basketball talent if it smacked him in the face.
What has Rowell achieved in the last 6 years? If anyone can name it, they deserve to be GM. Right now I believe Cohan and Rowell are worse than the 49ers Yorks, but the only difference was the niners have fallen a lot further because the warriors were never a dynasty in sports.
Sucks but its been a long time coming. I wish Mully well. Hes got a nice gig staring him in the face in NY; Donnie Walsh's (President of Basketball Operations) right hand man- Mullie can be the "GM" or "Vice President of Basketball Operations". Walsh is a little more savvy and gets the job done as far as dumping slaary, negotiating, and just generally achieving the bottom line. Mully is a popular NY face, can do plenty of interviews and whatnot, focus on what he does best (scouting and working the phones on trades). He'll still get to workout with during team practices as well I'm sure. He's already got experience putting together run and gun teams and NY has a ton of potential with young guys and massive salary cap in the coming offseasons. You couldn't ask for a better job. Or he could be "the man" in some front office somewhere else but if hes not in GS then what better place for him than NYC? I'm sure anywhere besides NYC he went would be a big disaster of a franchise.
Truly, a damn shame . Mullin was here four years and he was responsible for the two most successful years in Cohan's fifteen.
Yeah, what a way to treat a GM, who was actually successful, and a great Warriors player to boot. And, fans have to watch Rowell changing 48 wins into sub 30 wins with horrendous financial situation in just one offseason. How many years do we have to endure Cohan/Rowell double combo? Sigh...
You would think that Cohan learned from the Twardzick debacle? He put a buddy in charge because he trusts them with his money, instead of entrusting someone who understands the game and players in charge. Even after Mully was able to do the 1 thing that he was unable to do on his own.
