At one point in yesterday's game, Frye gets poked in the eye. He immediately went down on one knee, while holding, rubbing, and winking the eye. It was pretty obvious that he was in great discomfort.

First of all, I thought it was kind of odd that none of the other players immediately went over to him to see if he was alright. But, whatever. Anyway, a foul was called on the play, but it didn't result in free throws. Therefore, the ref gave the ball to the Blazers out of bounds. You could see Frye was still wincing from the poke, but he ended up receiving the inbounds pass. So, what does he do? Immediately tosses up a total - and I mean TOTAL - brick from about 17 feet! Still blinking the eye, mind you. With the foul, there were 14 seconds on the shot clock, so that wasn't a factor.

I immediately looked at my friend and exclaimed, "that's a great example right there as to why I don't want Channing Frye on the court as a Blazer."

    He nodded.

Sad, but true. The guy has talent.....but going back all the way to his college days, he has weird "WTF!" moments. He just can't keep seem to stay focused, or keep his head in the game. He reminds me of a poor man's version of Brian Williams (AKA Bison Dele).

The 3 pointers he now throws up is getting a little frustrating also. It's like if Aldridge is allow to shoot it then so can Frye.

A homeless man's version, perhaps. When he wanted to Brian Williams could ball. He just didn't really love the game all that much.

Frye is what Richard Anderson would have been if there were blogs in the late 80's, early 90's.

It didn't help that he had clinical depression. Somehow I don't think that's Frye's problem.

I worry that Oden is more like Williams/Dele. (Right down to the insinuations of homosexuality - although that's not the part that worries me. I SERIOUSLY hope Oden's brother is a bit more stable than Brian/Bison's.)

Bison Dele was one of Phil Jackson's favorite players (and he enjoyed playing for PJ). I almost wish we could have PJ just to see how he'd relate to Greg.

(Feel free to return this thread to discussion of Frye now...)

I think Fry has talent and, at times, plays very well.

But what do we expect from our #3 center and PF? An all-star? Oh, wait, yes we do.

    Dude, Frye is HORRIBLE.

Frye has an 8.7 PER. 8.7. That is fucking horrific.

If you factor in that he is a terrible defender (defense isn't reflected in PER well at all)... it's even worse.

We don't need an all-star, but getting someone who's not one of the worst players in the NBA would help.

Sorry. I just am at the end of my rope with the way Frye's playing. I'd rather see Shavlik out there... or would have rather seen Frye in Sacramento.

BP even had me believing in Mr. Fools Gold. Following the Spurs game, I had actually bought-in to the notion that Frye was gonna be a decent contributor to this team.

    Wow, since then, though? P-Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!

I'm back to my former thinking. I've survived the proverbial coma.

You know that's a point that I wish Nate would consider. I think Shavlik could help us more than Frye.

I think you're taking an extremely dark view of him. For our #3 PF/C he does about as well as one should expect.

Shavlik isn't half the player Fyr is. Does anybody here know anything about basketball? Anyone?

Better than Randolph, Ruffin or Diogu would do. It was downright embarrassing watching Diogu grab rebounds and throw them up so he could get another rebound. Randolph is a black hole when I've seen him play and not someone I would even want getting 10 minutes a game. People give Frye a lot of crap, but what do you expect from a guy who should only be getting 5 minutes a game for our team?

We could do a lot worse, as in say Diogu, Randolph or Ruffin

Actually, no. See my previous post. His PER is horrible. HORRIBLE.

We should not expect an offensively focused backup to be one of the least productive players on a per-minute basis in the entire NBA.

Why should we expect that? It's a bit insane to me.

On a losing team, yeah pretty much. On a contending team? Not a chance.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Frye doesn't rebound well, score well, defend well or pass well. Beyond that, he contributes.

    You Guys Are Right...

Fry can't play. He's blocking shots, playing tough interior defense, scoring a bit.Yeah, he's no good. Cut him.
