So the musical chairs game at backup PG continues. Its only Mid March.

Sorry, it's the truth. KP is KP, and he's to blame for how horrible the season is this year. We should have a minimum of 70 wins by now. KP should be ashamed by his actions (or lack thereof!)

Here’s the deal on the backup point guard thing:

They’re both good enough to play backup point guard minutes in the NBA. But not at the same time. As it stands, by using both guys and switching impulsively between them, neither one is doing much.

Man, Nate — pick a horse and ride him! Either one, I don’t care. Just decide which guy is best for this team right at this moment and stay with him. Show some confidence in him. Don’t yank him or steal his second-half minutes if he doesn’t play well in the second quarter. Nobody can play with one eye on the bench, frightened that his first mistake will land him a quick exit from the game.

Sorry, but the indecisiveness is not working.

I'm not convinced KP sees much in Sergio, we just don't have any other options. We are spoiled by having great backups in Joel, Travis, Martel and Rudy. Many teams are lucky to have 1 player at those levels. It's not easy to pickup a great backup and there is always a cost.

I have however started to second guess giving up Jarrett Jack last offseason. He could run the point for stretches, but more importantly he was able to drive and create his own shot. Now that burden is starting to overload Roy.

I always thought that Jack was given a bum rap - especially by the clueless Sergio brigade (as was clearly shown this year) - but I still think that if KP thinks Bayless is a Jack on steroids - he knows what he is talking about - so Sergio was nothing more than a place holder and someone to ease Rudy's transition as Bayless learns on the job. 16 more games + however long we go in the playoffs before he is shipped or gets the 3rd spot for good. We can live with it.

I have faith in Bayless becoming the real deal sooner or later.

It was Jack's terrible decision making that drove him out of town. The guy couldn't run a fast break to save his life.

I sort of agree ... although I think this is going to be a case of more later rather than sooner.

Jerryd's confidence has looked super low the past couple of weeks; super tentative and unsure of what to do with himself out there on the court; tonight wasn't much to see, but maybe with Nate deciding to go with one or the other of Sergio or Jerryd -- and frankly I didn't much care who it was as long as it was one or the other -- we'll see a jump in his comfort level, so he's not playing so tight and afraid to make a mistake for fear of losing his minutes.

I've been a pretty big Nate supporter, but this splitting minutes thing since Blake came back seems to have shaken both of the backups into a shell of their former selves. Not a great move by MacMillan.

Now the whole TEAM is so bad in the fast break game, it's actually becoming comical to me. But honestly, I was a major Jack basher last season, but I sorta miss him this year. I"ll take his traveling and stepping out of bounds. If we had him as a backup PG, we'd be a much better team. Bayless needs a few years because right now he's playing like he has red hot chill peppers shoved up his ass.

Since I know you're quoting Dwight Jaynes and you didn't think of this by yourself I'm going to let myself agree with something you posted *resists the urge to throwup*

I totally agree. Neither has looked like they are worth a damn since Blake came back, and because both were pretty effective in his absence we can assume that they all of sudden didn't forget how to play; the uneven substitutions and utter lack of confidence Nate has given either one seem the most likely culprit for their utterly horrendous performance.

    Apparently Detroit.

You need to learn this isn't college basketball. There's such a thing as parity.

First of all, I call 'bullshit'

Secondly, it sure beats the hell out of a loss no? Then again I'm sure you had a 1000 word rant all locked and loaded, but the Blazers spoiled your evening by winning.

If the basic thrust of this post is that Nate needs to stop playing musical chairs with the point guards, then I agree. If it's true that we are not able to trade for a better point guard, then we better let the ones we have develop. And you can not develop playing 5-10 minutes a night. He needs to give the job to one or the other. I don't know if Sergio is ever going to be a top PG on any team, but I do know that he will never be a top point guard playing for Nate, so I would say that they should go with Bayless. He has the physical skills that would enable him to become a top perimeter defender (which we desperately need) and he appears to have the mental toughness to prosper under Nate's leadership style.

On the Jarret Jack situation, he certainly made a lot of mistakes for us last year. But he seems to be making improvement and I have read that Larry Bird really likes him as a player and I doubt that he would trade either him or Brandon Rush for Bayless at this time, so maybe he doesn't feel "pritchslapped"? (I don't know why I threw that in; I guess I felt uncomfortable sometimes when we talked about "pritchslapping" people.)

Jack's still not a very efficient player, but he's probably exactly the kind of player that the Pacers need: hard nosed, tough, great locker room guy, and able to play a little bit of backup point or off the ball. My thinking is that both teams got what they wanted out of the deal. As it was, Jarret's time had run its course and him moving on had as much to do with making minutes for Rudy as acquiring a top flight point guard prospect.

Wow!? Just how many 'greater than' symbols is that? Sure looks like a lot, must mean Jarret is something like a million times better than either guy or something.

Boy, Mixum where would we be without your insightful and in-depth analyses?

    Jack:
    PER:
    12.47
    Per 36 stats: 14.1 pts, 4.2 assists, 3.6 rebounds, 2.5 turnovers 44% FG, 36% 3PT

    Sergio:
    PER:
    11.64
    Per 36 stats:10 points, 8 assists, 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 turnovers, 37% FG, 31% 3PT

    Jerryd:
    PER:
    9.14
    Per 36 stats: 12.8 pts, 4.5 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 3 turnovers, 37% FG, 26% 3PT

They all pretty much look like a turd sandwich if you ask me?
