Sam has long been a fave of mine, not just because his face without makeup looks like a clown, or because of his "giant testicles" dance ...but because everywhere he's gone has improved the moment he arrived (notably the sad-sack Wolves and Clippers franchises). I attribute it to his excellent joie de vivre, esprit de corps and encoulez-vous attitude. But where is he now? Waived by the Kings, that's where. And as I understand it, he would be eligible to appear on a playoff roster if signed, because he was waived before the Joe Smith/Drew Gooden deadline. Why hasn't some team picked him up? Do they assume that he's done? Is he done? Do they think that he's just going straight back to the Celtics (but why did they sign Marbury then? Because Sam's going to be an assistant coach?) I would love to see the team sign him. He could actually get minutes here, and on a good team. And I don't think it would seriously stunt the progress of Bayless or Sergio, because they're not getting minutes anyway (or doing so badly that that performance is doing worse for their long-term confidence than not playing would). Of course, we'd have to let someone go, but really, Michael Ruffin needs to be home with his pets. Anyone heard anything to the effect that he's already set on somewhere so isn't an option?
I think Sam-I-Am is done. Nobody wants him. He used to be one of the best scoring point guards in the game though.
Here's part of the reason why: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/PTX67oKzjUA&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PTX67oKzjUA&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> "The King of LA"
why not work him out.. if anything have him as inactive but like a personal coach for Bayless.. Teach him how to Kick ass with attitude to back it up.
Well, duh. But he played some valuable minutes in the playoffs LAST SEASON, and it wouldn't just be for his play that we'd be getting him. He has two rings, and could have valuable things to say come playoff time. Finally, our style of play suits him PERFECTLY. He couldn't help much with the Suns, but it's not like Steve Blake's game is predicated on youth and speed.
Well, he played some minutes in the play-offs, but I wouldn't exactly call a PER of 6.2, 0.333 FG%, 0.214 3FG% and a TS% of 0.397 valuable (unless your cheering for the other team). Seriously, those numbers make Sergio look good by comparision. Sam is done and should move on to coaching. BNM
I can easily argue the vast majority of those"Important minutes" he was a detriment on the floor. It was obvious.
Fair enough, but for the right match up, he can still play. For example, in a key game against the Hawks, he hit 6/8 shots and was a crucial factor in the win. ...except that Sergio is not playing. And Sergio has never played in the playoffs. If so, I'd like him to try it in Portland.
