Mine are coming in right now and are painful as fuck. Have any of you had your wisdom teeth pulled? Is it common for it to only be painful on one side?
They sometimes grow in straight, but usually they are angled or sideways. So pain on one side more than the other isn't uncommon. I had four pulled. The bottom two grew in jammed up against my molars and had to be cracked and taken out in pieces. I was swollen like a chipmunk for a few days.
I had mine pulled but when I was 17 before any of them were growing in. They had to dig in to pull them out and my face got swollen (like a chipmunk) for like 10 days. Was a horrible week to say the least.
I had all 4 pulled when I was 21 on the Friday before the Super Bowl. I was eating wings and drinking beer by Sunday. I then got rotting food in a few of the cavities and had bone chunks come out of one 4 months later. So, don't do that.
Unless they put pressure on your front teeth I don't think they are a bad thing. Can you floss or are your teeth too tight together? Also, a little tricky to keep clean, maybe.
I had all 4 taken out at the same time. My face was swollen, I drooled like an old person, and my gums bled. The painkillers gave me a headache for at least a week, I couldn't even read or watch tv. Basically, good luck with that.
spacing is great - that's why i never bothered to get them out. they all have decades-old fillings though, so i'm worried about long-term decay. would hate to have to get them pulled when i'm in my 60s or something
My housemates in college weren't happy about the stench, but they were the people who dragged me to the bar Superbowl Sunday in the first place.
I think most of you guys are just pussies. Had mine taken out when I was 18 I think. Went to the dentist, had some sleeping gas, woke up, mom drove me home. Had soup for a day or maybe two. No pain, no problem (and no additional pain-killers for later either if I remember right). Okay, so I don't think you guys are pussies, but I guess I must have been lucky. Seems like a lot of people have had worse experiences than I have.
My lower teeth were impacted, so they had to break my lower jaw on both sides to remove them. I do recall waking up during the procedure and "telling" the the doctor he was doing a great job. At least that's what I was trying to say, but I'm sure it didn't sound that way. I then remember more gas being administered.
I guess I was screaming when they were taking mine out even though I don't remember any of it whatsoever
I had mine pulled many years ago and then drove a long way back home. Picture this, me a dirty hippie in my ratty old truck, on painkillers, my jaw hanging, completely numb, drooling blood down my chin and onto my shirt. In the next lane, a full car with the whole family looking at me. Probably thinking I was some sort of psycho killer. barfo
pussies. I had a DDS/MD do mine, was knocked out (that was awesome). I had big ass headaches...painful as shit. Got 3 of them taken out, all impacted. Procedure was fine...knocked out...woke up drugged as fuck and trippy. Took a nap, woke up, went drinking that night. didn't use one of the vicodins I was given (well...I used them to knock out for some trans-atlantic flights and to trip out sometimes). look up dry socket....i was lucky, I actually didn't follow the directions and got a smoothie at jamba juice after my procedure....i think I sucked out the clot of blood in the socket. nothing happened though.
I may not be a dentist, but I'm a dental malpractice claims adjuster. No, they should not hurt. But please listen to this advice: They need to be examined if they hurt as that means you have a problem, I suspect one or more of the teeth are inpinging on your second molars root system. DO NOT have a general dentist pull those teeth!! Third molar (wisdom teeth) extractions are a very common cause of permanent parasthesia (numbness) in your tongue & lip. The reason why is that (especially in your lower, or mandibular, jaw) often your lingual nerve tangles with the tooth and when the tooth gets pulled, the nerve gets permanently damaged. Therefore, you need to see an oral surgeon as they are the only ones with special training to remove those teeth as smoothly as can be done. If you live in the Portland area I recommend Dr Rod Nichols in Milwaukie. He's the one who has extracted two of my teeth and he's as good as they come and less expensive than most all local oral surgeons. Believe me, do not screw around with these teeth.
