I'm starting to think about the draft. Having said that, what's the feeling amongst people around here? Sell the pick? Trade up? Any players people like? Any positions you think should be filled with a draft pick? Against my better judgement I can't help but keep looking at point guards, nobody is really blowing my socks off, but my mouse keeps wandering to ESPN's top 100 list and draftexpress.com; maybe I've just been conditioned to this team drafting a new one every year? Any thoughts? Too early to talk about it?
My gut feeling is that this draft is considered weak - which will prompt a move by KP to move up and grab someone that really strikes his fancy. I doubt he would go out of his way to send President Ike for a TE if he did not have something like that in mind. With that said, - I am not going to spend too much time or energy to pay attention to the draft yet, the playoffs watch is much more interesting and I do not think this team has to be so dependent on the draft to obtain talent anymore. A small cap space, a glut of young cheap talent and what seems like a pretty decent future will probably provide other avenues to acquire missing talent - trades or free-agency.
Use our trade exception to get a player and a pick (Like when we got Jones and Rudy pick) and package that pick with our early 20's pick to get around 14 to get Dejuan Blair.
or trade the pick for future picks, and move up to late 1st round with a few second rounders...arent we going to have like 4 this year in the second round?
Yeah, I'm in the camp of buying a second first-round pick and packaging the two first-rounders to move up in the first-round. The team doesn't need a bunch of new rookies. But one high-quality new player would definitely be a big benefit to an emerging contender.
I multi-task. I think about the playoffs this year and how the team is going to improve next year. Naturally gifted, I guess. I can't teach this.
Yeah, the draft is definitely not my focus, it just occured to me today that it's coming up -- sort of like an alarm clock going off in your head. Personally I'm much more interested in free agency and the potential for lopsided trades than I am adding a pick, but it occurs to me that there are still some spots that can be filled with a young guy or two (preferrably not two!). For some reason I keep thinking about Ty Lawson (what the hell is wrong with me?! ) or Patrick Patterson ...
And that, sir, in a nut-shell, is why you are producer while we, the proletariat, (I assume, despite not getting the official memo) are consumers. Much respect.
