hey for those who have applied to college, what do you do with your extra curricular activities?

Does it go on your high school transcript, or do you put it on your college letters / teacher recommendations? Also, do the colleges check or something? Can you exaggerate then, or put more shit that you actually didn't do? Because how do they verify if I went somewhere to help out with an educational program during the summer?

There is usually a spot on the application where you list your extracurriculars / activities.

And admission officials really won't give a crap about "helping out at an educational program; volunteering at so and so for..."

There are 2 things that they want to see in extra curricular, that is commitment and leadership.

So just going through stuff...starting with sports, JV sports are useless, need to have the varsity on there. But they like to see people who played all four years.

Then for clubs. Starting with service clubs like NHS and Key Club. Those are useless if you aren't in leadership positions. And even with a leadership position, colleges, especially the top ones, don't give a shit about these. Those two things are honestly on almost everyone's applications. Then things like science, math clubs, debate, etc. They don't care about those unless you won awards.

They won't care about volunteering, unless if it is over a prolonged series of time, or major concentration. Like if that summer thing you did, is what you did for like 40 hours a week, all summer, then they might care.

Not saying not to list these things. But those types of things are just padder that have no weight. What they want to see is you highly involved in 1 or 2 things. And then to have the general padding around your main 1 or 2 things.

I still think the number one general great thing to improve admissions chances with extra curricular is to be an Eagle Scout. That is just one of those things that still holds a lot of weight. It symbolizes hard work and being a man. It shows that you're a leader, and in most cases, Eagle Scouts will be in it since they were in first grade, so it has that longevity factor.

I wouldn't sweat extra curriculars too much though. Grades and test scores are still the most important thing in regards to getting into college.

Okay, thanks for clearing it up. I was kinda of confused.

I guess I'm screwed then because I don't play sports in high school, or have a leadership position with any of the clubs I'm in (just a member). Damn, lol.

But I'm not trying to go to an Ivy League or anything, so I don't think it'll be too much of a problem. Imma just focus on my studies right now :O
