My boss just called me and informed me that I'd be heading back to work in a week, no big deal, that's what I was expecting. Then he says that his manager, the no. 2 person in the company quit, so I'm getting promoted to manager, and if I stay I'll inherit the company. This sucks. Right now we have a total of 2 workers full time, (myself and him) and 2 part-time. This is a relatively large pool service company, we service about 60 pools and open/close hundreds every year. I've only been working there for a year, so I really don't know what I'm doing and now I have to go to jobs where I'll be the one talking to the customers and trying to sort out their issues, when I don't even know what's going on. Last year we were working 50-60 hours a week with the guy who quit, he did most of the work, so I can only imagine how it's going to be this year. Unless he hires someone, which he is very reluctant to do for some reason, then I'm going to be working my <Censored> for the next year. Yes it's a good opportunity to possibly inherit a company that makes him $5,000-$10,000 a week, but basically I now have to decide whether I want to go to college or stay here and run a pool company for the rest of my life. That's in the long run, for now I just need to figure out what the <Censored> I'm doing now that I'm the manager. This sucks [IMG]

I would suggest that you talk to him about it, and let him know what your feelings are about the entire situation. I'm sure he'd be happy to help you out and clarify certain aspects of the job for you.Anyway, good luck!

Well he assumes that I know enough after working there for a year, which isn't the case because I didn't have to handle most of the problems. He's very demanding and he expects a lot from his employees, so we'll see how it goes. I wish I had my manager back [IMG] I also got paid cash last year, now I have to go on the books which sucks. Thanks though.

Your even hesitant about staying in the pool company.

I really think college should be your choice..As Rok said, your hesitant, and going to college would increase your education, maturity, and would also boost your chances at a better job, and a better future..

It doesn't mean a better job or future though, that's a lot of money. I doubt I'll make more anywhere else.

Well he doesn't work 12 months a year due to our climate, but he makes about $350,000 a year.

A year lets say it was 7.5k a week on average then it would be 7,500 X 52 which is 390k a year.

Pool company. You can always do college later on in life, but this is the part of your life you need to start to look for a house and all the expenses. You need money.

Yeah but he doesn't make $10,000 ever week, just during closing and opening season, when he makes up to $12,000 a week. It's close to $350k a year.

I'm still undecided, my Dad will probably push for college and make my life a pain in the <Censored> if I don't go.
