yes, that is what i am saying. let's say we're talking about gasol, lopez, and oden. oden is the best rebounder and the most efficient scorer despite that fact that teams do frequently send double teams at him(and that he's been in and out of the lineup). he's shown on the court that he is a better player. now if we're talking about rookie of the year voting or who has had the better season, gasol and lopez playing 20 more games definitely is a factor and you'd have to give those guys the edge. strictly speaking on who is the better player, the answer is oden.
I never said he wasn't polished offensively, nor did I say I agreed with La Bomba's rankings, nor did I say Bynum is going to be 10Xs better than Oden in the future. But with all the centers that were mentioned, with the except of Perkins and Kaman, Oden has NOT proven more than anybody else on the list. He also averages 4 fouls per game, highest fouls per game out of anyone on the list, something he also had trouble with in college. Again, I'm not saying Oden is going to be a bust in the future, but if you're talking about how much he has proven now, he ranks near the bottom with all the other centers that have been mentioned. And yes, I'm using health as a factor as well.
Bynum has proven more when he's healthy than Oden has when he is healthy, end of story. And funny how you say my rankings are flawed when the only reason you're arguing this with me is because Oden wears a Blazers jersey. Heck, I'm not even a Lakers fan.
With a healthy Bynum, Lakers were #1 in the west even without Pau. Again, not saying Bynum dominates Oden or anything, but he has proven more in the time he has been in the league.
"You can have all the talent in the world but if you are injured every other game it doesn't matter." - La Bamba Sorry, your argument is flawed.
right. of course, your rankings also say that perkins, kaman, gasol, and others have proven more than oden as well. that just isn't the case.
All I'm saying is that if I had to build a team at this point, I would choose Perkins over Oden 100 times out of 100 and not just because he's a Celtics, and I agree that he's average center but the point is that he's reliable for his position, and you get numbers from him plus defense. Oden has shown absolutely nothing at this point, and you gotta remember he's a #1 pick, which was the biggest mistake the Blazers have made to this point. (in building their young team) Imagine them with guy OKC got.
Andrew Bynum Brook Lopez Greg Oden Andris Biedrins Al Horford Emeka Okafor Chris Kaman Andrew Bogut Marc Gasol Kendrick Perkins The Blazers fans have a point about Oden proving himself to be one of the best talents...when he's on the court. Injury problems and foul trouble are faults, and they bring him lower then he would have been. He has a chance to reach #1 in the future if he can rid himself of those problems.
Oden has 6 more double-doubles than Perkins while playing in 16 less games. Oden also averages more points and rebounds. You have no idea what you're talking about.
Oden missed a whole season because of injury, and he hadn't even experienced one bruising game as an NBA center yet. He averages nearly 4 fouls per game in 22 mpg. Bynum's averaged around 30 mpg over the last 2 seasons, with around 3 fpg in both, so fouls haven't kept him off the court. His injury/foul problems don't seem to be as serious as Oden's. Plus, Bynum has been in the league longer and has already proven himself as a star center. Oden has yet to do that.
Bynum suffered some freak accident type of injuries so I would be somewhat hesitant to label him injury-prone.
That's not exactly true - Yao is a 7'5" person. It's assumed that he'll average about 60-65 games per season for his career. His feet are simply too big to avoid injuries for long. Oden's had several types of injuries that have sidelined him for long stretches of time - in all of his extremities.
Bynum a star center? Hardly. 30 out of his 46 games this year he avg 12pts and 8rebs. Dwight Howard's rookie numbers are better than those. Bynum has had two great months in his NBA career. Other than that it's been numbers your slightly above average center can give you. Bogut put up 14 and 10 over a whole season last year while Bynum put up 13 and 10 over half a season, with one stretch of great play inflating his numbers from the previous 2 months. Bynum is not a star. Not even close.
Are you implying that Howard isn't a star center? If you aren't, comparing him to Bynum is useless. Find me one GM in the NBA who would take Bogut over Bynum. Bynum has proven himself in the NBA. 13 and 10 and 14 and 8 are great stats for a 21/22 year old center who was playing under 30 minutes per game and had to share the ball with Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, and Pau Gasol (mostly this season). He's a star center. Anyway, what am I arguing in favor of Bynum for...the Lakers fans could do it way better than I can.
Yao Ming has had injuries such as stress fractures and osteomyelitis. Bynum's injuries have been caused by the fault of his teammates:
