Police Officer Apologizes To Texans’ Moats

Dallas police officer Robert Powell, who drew his gun and delayed Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats while he was frantically trying to get to the hospital room of his dying mother-in-law, has apologized for acknowledged misconduct that was captured on video.

Per the Associated Press, Powell released this statement through his lawyer:

“I wish to publicly and sincerely apologize to the Moats family, my colleagues in the Dallas Police Department and to all those who have been rightfully angered by my actions. After stopping Mr. Moats’ vehicle, I showed poor judgment and insensitivity to Mr. Moats and his family by my words and actions.”

There was no immediate reaction from Moats or his agent.

During the incident, Powell said to Moats, “I can screw you over.”

When a fellow police officer informed Powell that the mother-in-law was, in fact, dying, Powell replied, “All right. I’m almost done.”

Powell has been reprimanded publicly and privately by his superiors, who have expressed embarrassment and disappointment at the officer’s actions.

Powell is on administrative leave pending an internal review.
