Blazer fans don't need to get bent out of shape by this thread. It's not Oden's year, plain and simple. Hopefully the future will be better, but if nothing else we've seen improvements already, and his impact defensively will be valuable for the rest of this season. The future is the goal though, not just this year.
He put a guy who played 24 games this season and has averaged 12/8 so far at #1. I wouldn't give his list too much attention. Again, Kaman isn't even close to as good as he was last season.
Al Horford Andrew Bogut Andrew Bynum Andris Biedrins Brook Lopez Chris Kaman Emeka Okafor Greg Oden Kendrick Perkins Marc Gasol Right now: 1. Brook Lopez 2. Marc Gasol 3. Al Horford 4. Andrew Bynum 5. Emeka Okafor 6. Greg Oden 7. Andrew Bogut 8. Andris Biedrins 9. Chris Kaman 10. Kendrick Perkins Future (1-3 years) 1. Oden (if he stays healthy) 2. Bynum (if he stays healthy) 3. Brook Lopez 4. Al Horford 5. Marc Gasol 6. Emeka Okafor 7. Andrew Bogut 8. Andris Biedrins 9. Chris Kaman 10. Kendrick Perkins
In three years... Greg Oden Andrew Bynum Andris Biedrins Andrew Bogut Brook Lopez Emeka Okafor Chris Kaman Marc Gasol Kendrick Perkins not ranking Horford because he's a PF. Perkins is screwed when Allen/Garnett/Pierce are done...
Lots of people are posting a lot of opinions about things that are nowhere near the subject of this thread. Some of you may want to re-read the OP before your panties get even more twisted. An Oden vs. Bynum injury debate would be a sweet thread of its own. +1 to nate and bengal for having reading skills. Now, if you are making you FUTURE predictions with injuries factored into that, kudos... but this conversation has nothing to do with current rankings, this is about who has potential. Not trying to be a thread nazi here, but imho several of you look like idiots having your own arguments in the middle of a completely separate conversation, and I find it sorta funny. That said, assuming no more injuries, I think Oden will top that list in 3 years, based on his injury track record however, I think Bynum is a safer pick for Nostradamus.
You haven't seen enough games to know why he is 4th on that list? He is an enforcer who gives his team the edge in rebounding. He has good hands, finishes strong, and plays excellent defense. Why put an injured guy on the list if you are going to dismiss him because he is injured? You have to look at what he's done when healthy and consider whether or not you think he can still do it if put in the right condition ie, a winning team. Who's better Gilbert Arenas or Richard Jefferson? Exactly. Edit: Biedrins stats are bloated because he plays Nellie ball. He's still young, and he has a lot of potential but that's not the only thing I ranked them on. If you asked me which centers whould I draft right now: 1 Andrew Bynum 2 Al Horford 3 Kendrik Perkins 4 Emeka Okafor 5 Andris Biedrins 6 Brook Lopez 7 Greg Oden 8 Marc Gasol 9 Andrew Bogut 10 Chris Kaman
You would draft Bynum over Oden, despite the fact that Bynum has had two season ending knee problems? Oden has only had one, which he really could have come back from last season. It's obvious that you are ranking Oden down because of injuries, but Bynum is equally injury prone. Also, Marc Gasol and Brook Lopez are better prospects than Perkins. Period. Your opinion of Perkins is homerific.
I said this on here when everyone was hyping up Oden to be the next big thing in the NBA. BUST The Blazers busted over Jordan and Durant. I think Bynum has the most potential, but he is overpaid.
Every thing looks to be on subject in this thread. God forbid posters question each others rankings though. Like that has never happened in a rankings thread before. So far I think you've actually gone off topic more than any poster in this thread.
Well, Oden hasn't really done much. 2 years in to his NBA career and he's missed a ton of games and has been very ineffective in a lot of games. He's shown some flashes, but he has yet to live up to the hype that Blazer fans and many others have given him. I still think he's going to turn out to be a very good center, but he really does need to add some actual offensive moves to his repertoire instead of just relying on his freakish athletic ability. Before he does that though, he should focus on figuring out how to stay healthy.
1. Andrew Bynum 2. Greg Oden 3. Al Horford 4. Brook Lopez 5. Marc Gasol 6. Emeka Okafor 7. Andris Biedrins 8. Kendrick Perkins 9. Andrew Bogut 10. Chris Kaman
Dwayne Wade what? Work on reading comprehension RoyToy. Get your last word in now, gonna just sit back and laugh at your attempt to argue that someone's opinion is invalid.
Yup, I've watched 90% of the Blazer games this year, and I think you're dead wrong. Has he set the world on fire, definitely not, but he has absolutely shown flashes of what he's capable of. The biggest problem right now is that he isn't in game shape. He hasn't been able to stay healthy long enough to regain his athleticism. That isn't because of this season, but still a nagging after effect of last season. With that said, if you actually watched Blazer games, you would know that he is one of the least utilized weapons in the Portland offense. The guy is open all the time, but his teammates are rarely capable of getting him the ball. When they do, it's easy points on the board. He's a freakish rebounder, and his shot blocking is still fantastic. His biggest problem right now is avoiding quick point guards who get past their defender (which happens all too often unfortunately). He can't seem to get out of their way, which I think is an obvious sign of his youth and inexperience. I think this can also be attributed in large part to his conditioning. He just isn't as quick as he was before the surgery. Either way, you clearly haven't watched him much (if at all) this season, and you're only basing your opinion off his injuries and his box scores. Cheers!
Aaaaaaaand here you are, still the only one going off subject. Great job doing what you were complaining about. You're bright. Do everyone a favor and no longer respond in this thread, or just preferably cancel your ISP. I think that would be best.
The other issue with Greg that I've noticed when I've watched him, which is pretty extensively going back to his OSU days, is he doesn't really have great offense in the low post. He has no go to move that allows him to get buckets when he can't just dunk it, and his face up game is still a huge work in progress. I do think he's going to be a dominant center though, and he, Dwight, and Bynum will largely be considered the top 3 centers in the league for years to come at some point.
I think Nellie actually keeps Biedrins numbers lower than what they would be elsewhere. Nelson likes little guys, the fact that a real C even starts for Nelson says something about how good he is. He get no plays run for him despite bieng among the league leaders in FG%. He's constantly fighting 2 bigs from the other team, getting doubled on rebounds. You'd think that being the only C out there would help his rebounding numbers but he actually rebounds at a much better rate when he's playing with another big guy, like Turiaf. Nellie also limits his minutes much more than most other coaches would, IMO. I'm the first to admit my bias, but I think he's right up there with Bynum and what we think Oden will be.
