Good. He is the one that called Brandon "disappointing" during his rookie campaign.

I am feeling very good about Greg's future with this assessment. (To be honest, I felt the same before).

Whatever. At this point, I couldn't care less about what "experts" think about a Greg Oden. I'm sure Greg feels the same way too. Hopefully he uses it as extra motivation.

    Keep workin hard G.O.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Rosen called LeBron James overhyped and nothing special for his first three seasons.

Rosen takes stupid positions just to be contrarian.

He does understand that Greg missed an entire NBA season with a major knee injury right? What a dick.

Yeah Rosen is an idiot who doesn't know anything. That's been clear for a while IMO.

It just goes to show how Oden is looking to people outside of the Blazer fans' bubble. He gets dunked on by Shaq on national TV. He puts up 4 & 2 against the Thunder. That is what people watch and hold onto.

LMAO it baffles me how ridiculous that sounds. Declaring Greg Oden as a dud while he is still playing in his first season in a crowded Blazers team yet still managing to average respectable number in limited minutes? Give me a break.

They dont see stats like 12/8 in 11 minutes, for this reason Oden will be living a comfortable lifestyle long after Rosen has run out of unemployment checks.

Rosen is the next Chuck Swirsky.

I hate lazy East Coast beat writers that don't watch any games.

Rosen is old school. His notion of what the #1 pick should look like is Hakeem-Robinson-Duncan.....not a long term project with a bum wheel.

Some idiots look as PPG and assume that tells the whole story.

Greg Oden, as a rookie big man coming off microfracture knee surgery has a PER of 18.1. In most years, that's high enough to win ROY.

Kevin Durant won ROY last year with a PER of 15.8, but because he jacked up over 17 FGA per game on a crappy team he managed to average > 20 PPG. Durant has stepped up his game this year and is shooting a much higher FG%. Why don't we give Oden another season and see how much he improves. After all, Durant didn't sit out a year with microfracture knee surgery - and he still showed considerable improvement during his second full season.

Oden came into the season 30 lbs. overweight, and other than two summer league games hadn't played competitive basketball in 19 months. Yet, the lazy journalists chose to ignore this and label him a bust.

Also, anyone who has actually watched him play more than once knows he has a huge impact on the game, whether or not he's scoring. He has an off-the-chart ORB% of 16.1. By comparison, Dwight Howard, this season, is averaging a career best ORB% of 14.1 (12.2 career average). He makes a huge impact on defense and draws double teams on offense.

Yes, he gets in foul trouble (but also draws fouls on opposing big men at a very high rate), and he has not yet regained his pre-surgery explosiveness. Both of those things are correctable. As a rookie, he's also inconsistent. That shouldn't be a huge surprise and is not sufficient reason to call him a bust. If you only look at the extremes Oden is either a total bust or a budding superstar. The truth, right now, lies between these two extremes. We won't know which he will become until a couple years from now. Calling him either at this point is narrow minded, short sighted and just plain stupid.

BTW, I don't usually put much stock in hypothetical stats like PTS/48 or REB/36, but just to illustrate how incredibly productive Oden has been in his limited PT this season, consider these numbers:

    PTS/36 = 14.6
    REB/36 = 11.7
    BLK/36 = 1.9

If Oden was playing starter's minutes he'd be running away with the ROY award. Even in this extremely talented rookie class if he was putting up those numbers on a 50-win team, the voting wouldn't be close.

Also, as a rookie, Kevin Durant averaged 20.3 PPG on 17.1 FGA/G. At his current shooting percentages, if Greg Oden took 17.1 shots per game, he'd be averaging 26.7 PPG. That would put him 4th in the league in scoring behind only Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. Not bad company - especially since offense isn't considered Oden's strength.

Obviously, those numbers are pure fantasy. However, they do help illustrate the potential that Oden may someday be capable of once he learns how to stay out of foul trouble and regains his explosiveness. Even if he never gets any more explosive than he is right now, he will be a great rebounder and a very efficient scorer.

I agree, BNM, but the first thing a Oden basher would say is he couldn't stay in a game 36 mins.
