No offense, dude, but that was a horrible post. Can you back up your post?Even ESPN people know the race is between Dirk and Nash."No way in hell will Dirk win it."Dirk was 3rd place last time, and Shaq isn't a contender this year, so he could be 2nd!!"Dirk doesn't deserve it as his team would be over .500 and well into playoffs without him,"No, that's not true. The more Dirk got the ball, the better the team became. Dallas was 52-30 with The Big Three in its final year, 58-24 with The Big Two, and this year, with Dirk alone, the Mavs are already 53-16! "and his numbers aren't as good as 4 or 5 other contendors."Which FIVE contendErs? Tony Parker? He doesn't have better numbers. LeBron? Yes, better numbers, but no way in Hell he's winning it (too young, team struggles in a way). Arenas has sort of better numbers, but he's not a candidate. Same with Paul Pierce. Billups isn't a leading candidate, and for the most part his numbers are even with Dirk.So WHO are these five contenders???"I doubt he wille ven come in top 4-5 voting."You are such an idiot, man. Once again, I don't want to start fights, but these lines are way too idiotic. He came 3rd last season, and this year, he's playing better than ever! By the way, Dirk plays good defense, and I'll prove THAT to you, as well. For Nash, somebody who only deserves MVP for offense, Dirk deserves most improved defender award (ROCKETS coach Stan/Jeff Van Gundy SAID that), and I'll prove it, as well.
No offense, dude, but that was a horrible post. Can you back up your post?Even ESPN people know the race is between Dirk and Nash.
ESPN announcers know it is a race between Kobe and Nash. That is why they continuously bring up Kobe's 81, his scoring rampage, and oh....when they SAY Kobe deserves MVP!
And last year LeBron nor Kobe could get teams into playoffs, neither was averaging numbers as good as this year, and teams are worse.
And your point? Of course they are better with Dirk, but Dallas as a team without Dirk is better than Sacto and LA. Terry, Josh Howard, Stackhouse, and the rest are a pretty damn good bunch.
Don't bring up those people. Nash, Kobe, LeBron are the main guys I am talking about. Nash is getting 19PPG with 11APG while leading his depleted team to 2nd place in West, Kobe is bringing his D-league quality team to 7th seed in West with his 35PPG (most for season since MJ) on 46% shooting and 5RPG and 4APG, and LeBron is leading his depleted Cavs in which the 2nd main guy has been hurt since January to a 45+ win season and homecourt advantage (could possibly win over 50), and is having a 30/7/7 on 47% shooting year. Other worthy candidates: Melo (leading his depleted team to 3rd seed in West, averaging career high numbers), Wade (having amazing season as well), AI (quietly having an AMAZING statistical season, although others deserve it more as his team has underachieved)among a few others. Not saying the other candidates outside Nash/Kobe/Bron deserve MVP mroe than Dirk, but they are definately in running.
I just listed main 3. He will probably be #4 in voting.
The compeition for MVP this year is much better. Kobe is doing things people haven't seen since MJ and making his CBA quality team a winning one in a tough conference, Nash is better than last year and has done a better job with a worse team, and Bron is leading his crappy team to same spot in East as Dirk is leading his team to in West.
    I never said he didn't.
Yep, you are really a smart guy when it comes to NBA. We are discussing MVP, and you don't even know who the Rockets coach is! Dirk doesn't deserve any awards for defense. He has improved, but not so much he should be on any all defensive teams.

What i've been saying there are different circumstances for Kobe bryant and Elton brand. Kobe's leading a team which was expected to be a lottery team to the playoffs. He's also dropping 35 ppg which has never been seen since the days of Jordan. He derserves serious contention for that.Elton brand has improved his game in every facet and the clippers are a 5th seed. That alone warrants some consideration , these are the clips. And dallas would barley be a playoff team without dirk, he's very valuable but not as valuable as guys like Kobe, nash, Ai and others.

Here's my pick for MVP:Steve Nash: Watch a Suns game, and you'll see the ball is in Nash's hands 90% of the time when he's on the floor. He shoots 51% from the field, a surreal percentage for a guard. He averages 20 PPG to go along with 10 APG. Plus, wheater you attribute it to the Suns "system" or w/e, the ball is still in Nash's hands everytime and he still does wonders with it. Every player that comes to the Suns seems to play better than ever, and while not all of it is due to Nash, he does influence their play a dickload. Without Nash, this team is fighting for it's Playoff life with SAC and LA. With Nash however, they are a contender. Now does that fit the definition of MVP?And I don't get how valuable AI is. His team isn't great, but they should be doing miles better than they are right now. I've always viewed AI as a top tier player in NBA History, but he really is letting me down this year

He may be the mvp but his supporting cast is severely underrated. All those guys needed was a pg who could get them open shots [there are pg's who can do that]. Jason kidd on this team would do better i believe. He'd defend his man better and he sees the court better than nash.I've been wondering, nash left dallas and dallas go on to post a better season and dirk has a better season. Why is that?

I'm surprised you didn't bring up Lebron since he is also a scorer on a team that is going nowhere. Dirk would be averaging a few more points a game if Howard was out more. Dirk takes what the other team gives him while Kobe tries to make something out of nothing and occasionally does but that is a selfish style to play. If Kobe's team was a top 5 team I would defintely think he should be MVP with those stats but to me it is either Nash or Nowitzki.

Doing something which only 2 people have done in nba history deserves recognition. When you take a lot of shots, you make a lot of shots. That is absolutely false. Do you think it easy to take 27 shots every game, day in day out? Do you even know what energy is required? Kobe is the one averaging 25ppg, not dirk, not Ai, not lebron. There are facts. The more shots you take the lower you're field goal percentage goes. Ane explain to me what teamates does Dirk make better? Seeing as how kobe's averaging more assits than dirk has done in his whole career. Explain.edit: Dirk's supporting cast is better than kobe's. Kobe's stats are better. He's leading a team which was expected to be a lottery team to a 7th or even 6th seed. He deserves some recognition.

Lakers are worse than last year, far worse talent wise.Mavsfan- LeBron is averaging 30/7/7 on 47% shooting, and his team is 11 games above .500. Theya re gonna face Wizards first round of playoffs, in which they will ahve homecourt....in other words, he is not just a scorer, and his team is going somewhere.Once again, Nowitzki is far from MVP IMO, and the other 3 guys deserve it a lot more, Nash the most.

Lakers have less talent but they also has a coach who likes to teach defense and doesn't tell his team to jack up 3's like last night. The difference is Phil and kobe. Phil's coaching style made odom more uself, odom's styles made kobe play better. So it all started with phil.

And Jason Kidd wouldn't be able to feed off teammates better, or hit open teammates in the halfcourt as well as Nash. Alot of nash's assists are from halfcourt situations, something he is superioir to Kidd in. To your second question, the Mavs went to the Eastern Conference Finals with Nash, and they didn't even go that far last year. So how is it they have done better? Plus they always win 50 - 60 games, so thats not new. How did they do better in the post season?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I've been wondering, nash left dallas and dallas go on to post a better season and dirk has a better season. Why is that?</div>Well the season before Nash left we had that Walker/Jamison lineup that created problems. Also, it could be that we really didn't drop off talent wise as Nash did not play the same way in Dallas as he is in Phoenix. Terry/Harris/DA have picked up the slack and Mavs have reverted to a traditional lineup. More defense, actual centers. Also, having Dirk whose having more freedom with the ball. That all leads to Dallas not having any real dropoff with Nash leaving.

OKay, MVP is a strange award...It doesn't always go to who deserves it, and sometimes it does. The people that do vote, vote differently each year...sometimes they vote for the best player in the league, and sometimes they vote for who's the best player on the best team, and sometimes they vote for who's means the most to their team...So that's the issue...how do we know who they vote for, and to that question, how do you think it should be awarded?I mean it's no question that Nash is the front runner as he means more to his team than anyone.Dirk, Billups, and Tony P, are all in the discussion cause they either are the best, or have played the best on the leagues top 3 teams, and all three teams are head and shoulders above the rest.Kobe and Lebron help their teams cause both teams would be garbage without them, same goes for Artest and Sac town.So this discussion could go on and on.My list is like this:1a.Nash1b.Dirk2. Kobe3. BillupsAnd that's the only real list...the other guys are in the discussion, but you can book that one of these 4, really the top 3 guys on my list, are the only ones that could actually win it.I think that alot of the experts have said, right now its Nash, and some vote for Kobe mainly because of his 81 point game. But I've also heard many of those same people say that if the Mavs get 60+ wins, that'd they have to take a closer look at Dirk, and that he could possibly win it.I'll leave you with this:Charles Barkley, who absolutely HATES the Mavs, and HATES the fact that Dirk shoots from outside, when he should always be on the post, said himself-------There's only 2 actual contenders MVP, Nash and Nowitski are it.

I really don't think Billuips deserves award, and shouldn't even be in top 5. I think people (myself included) put Kobe there because he is carrying team to 7th see din playoffs while averaging most PPG since MJ at 35PPG. I put LeBron in there as he is having the best overall numbers since MJ and the big O, and is willing a bad team to homecourt advantage in playoffs. I agree, it will come down to Nash, Kobe and Nowitzki, but I think nash, Kobe, and Bron are 3 most deserving.

Bron is not more deserving than Dirk at all...Now if you want to say he's AS deserving, than I could mabey understand that comment, but not more deserving.Dirk doens't have to put the numbers up the Kobe and Bron does, but that doesn't mean he's not deserving the award. And sorry man, but the Heat have not done as well as the Mavs this year, dispite the the injuries and everthing that's gone on.
