Congrats to the Beavs. Even though I graduated from UO, I'm impressed with Craig Robinson -- turning that program around in just one season. Hope he stays around there.

Having read the Dwight Jaynes post on this I honestly the beavs getting into the CBI (or the fact that there even is a CBI) is a joke. No offense beaver fans

    Re: OT: Beavers win championship!!!

It's not about "getting into the postseason". It's about winning SOMETHING. ANYTHING. (Especially after last year's Pac-10 nightmare) In this case, it happened to be the whole damned tournament, and I'm proud. Would I take an NIT or NCAA bid instead. Surely. But we weren't that good. As a result of the CBI, OSU gets some extra airtime and publicity on ESPN. It's great for the school and the program, particularly in recruiting new players.

I'm so happy with Coach Robinson and have been since I heard he was hired last year...before he even rolled into town. I am concerned that in a year or two another school will come calling. Probably right around when Obama is coming up for re-election and needs help in an important toss-up state.

But I'm glad to see Beaver basketball being relevant. I am expecting OSU to do well enough in the next year or two (max) to get into the big dance. Yeah! :ghoti:

Congrats Beavs on such a huge improvement. I only hope that Dunlap can help the Ducks as much as Craig helped you guys.

With all due respect, any non-Beaver fan that has any understanding of the facts relating to this CBI farce would view it as a joke.

...do you even know ALL of the "facts"?!?!?!

    About the CBI:

Sixteen teams compete in this new postseason event, hosted at on-campus arenas throughout the country. The CBI provides a meaningful opportunity for teams that are deserving of a postseason experience.

The College Basketball Invitational is a single-elimination tournament up until the Championship Series, with all games being played at campus sites. The Championship Series will be a best-of-three series.

The event features eight first-round games, four second-round games, a semifinal round and then a Championship Series. The opening round of the event takes place on the Tuesday and Wednesday nights following the final weekend of conference tournament games. The winner of each opening round game advances to the round of eight on the following Monday, with the semifinals to be held on Wednesday of that week. The Championship Series take place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (if necessary) after the semifinals.

Bracketing is done geographically into four regions of the country (East, West, South, Midwest) to minimize missed class time. Brackets will be balanced competitively within each region. The final selection and bracketing process takes place after the NCAA Tournament field is announced.

The 16-team field consists of teams that are not selected for the NCAA Tournament. Teams will be invited based upon their performance during their conference and non-conference schedule, as well as how well the team is playing at the end of the regular season.

    The 2009 CBI Field:

Boise State Broncos (19-12 overall, 9-7 Western Atlantic Conference, 3rd)
Coach Greg Graham led the Bronco’s to a 19-12 record, highlighted by a 13-3 home record at Taco Bell Arena. Senior leader Mark Sanchez has guided Boise State most of the way, leading the team in scoring 11 times this season. Junior Kurt Cunningham led the WAC in field goal percentage (.688), while sophomore Paul Noonan ranked first in league free throw percentage (.857). In addition, Boise State ranks second in scoring offense (73.2) and defensive rebounds (24.4).

Buffalo Bulls (21-11 overall, 11-5 Mid American Conference, 1st)
Led by Coach Reggie Witherspoon, who was named the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, the Bulls finished up with a record of 21-11. Witherspoon took a UB squad that went 10-20 (3-13 MAC) a season ago and guided them to the most regular season wins in school history. The 11 conference wins tied for the most in school history. The Bulls had a great early season start when they were crowned champions of the Rainbow Classic in Hawaii; their first in-season tournament championship in 15 years.

    Charleston Cougars (26-8 overall, 15-5 Southern, 2nd)
Behind the efforts of sophomore stand out Andrew Goudelock, the Cougars marched their way to the door of the NCAA tournament. The 2008-09 season was riddled with highlights including the Feb. 7 defeat of Davidson that snapped a 43-game SoCon winning streak. Coach Bobby Cremins improved his record to 15-7 all-time in SoCon Tournament games and 7-2 as Charleston’s coach. Goudelock and teammate Jermaine Johnson were both recognized by the league’s head coaches and placed on the All-Southern Conference first and third teams respectively.

Green Bay Phoenix (22-10 overall, 13-5 Horizon League, 2nd)
Green Bay is one of just two schools in the Horizon League to receive a bye in the league tournament four times in the past six years. The 2008-09 season marked the first time since their 2004-05 season that the Phoenix finished second in the league standings. The thirteen conference wins by the team this year were the highest total since the 1995-96 season. Senior Ryan Tillema led the Phoenix throughout the season and was named to the NCAA Division I All-District 12 first team. This is the first postseason appearance for Green Bay since 1996.

Houston Cougars (21-11 overall, 10-6 Conference USA, 4th)
Under the tutelage of Coach Tom Penders the Cougars have reached their fourth postseason appearance in the last five years. Taking over a program that had posted double-digit wins only twice in the seven seasons before, Penders has led the Cougars to five straight winning seasons with at least 18 wins each year. Houston’s balanced attack was led offensively by Conference USA Newcomer of the Year Aubrey Coleman and defensively by C-USA All-Defensive selection Kelvin Lewis. Over the course of the 2008-09 season five players averaged double-digit points.

Nevada Wolf Pack (21-12 overall, 11-5 Western Atlantic Conference, 2nd)
This year marks Nevada’s sixth consecutive season with at least 20 wins and the fifth 20-win season for head coach Mark Fox, who is the only Wolf Pack coach to lead more than one team to at least 20 victories. The Wolf Pack have participated in postseason play for seven consecutive seasons. Freshman Luke Babbitt led Nevada in both scoring and rebounding with 17.0 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. He was awarded with the 2009 WAC Freshman of the Year and first-team All-WAC citations for his consistently dominant play throughout the year.

    Northeastern Huskies (18-12 overall, 12-6 Colonial, 4th)
The Huskies were the first CAA team in six years to win at Old Dominion and VCU in the same season. Under third-year head coach Bill Coen, the Huskies saw a four-win improvement and matched their all-time high in CAA victories. Northeastern had five players honored at the CAA Awards, led by junior Matt Janning who was named to the All-CAA first team and CAA All-Academic second team. The Huskies started off hot in conference play this season winning nine of their first ten games.

    Oregon State Beavers (13-17 Overall, 7-11 Pac-10, 8th)
First year Head Coach Craig Robinson led the Beavers to the fifth best single season turnaround in Pac-10 history. Winless in 2007-08 campaign, Robinson led his team 7-11 conference record, including a regular season sweep of the Bay Area schools. Oregon State placed three players on the all-conference team, including Seth Tarver who became the first Oregon State player to lead the Pac-10 in steals since Gary Payton in the 1989-90 season.

    Richmond Spiders (18-15 overall, 9-7 Atlantic 10, 7th)
Led by sophomore Kevin Anderson, Richmond capped their regular season with an 80-75 victory over No.17 Xavier, marking the second-straight season the Spiders have defeated a top-20 team in the Robins Center. The win clinched a tie for fifth in the Atlantic 10, and one of only fours teams in the A-10 who have finished in fifth place or better in each of the past two seasons. The Spiders closed out their season winning four of their last five games and six of their last eight.

St. John's Red Storm (16-17 overall, 6-12 Big East, 13th)
Led by Paris Horne, St. John’s remained competitive in the BIG EAST throughout the season scoring a win over Notre Dame and earning a season sweep of Georgetown. Playing in a conference filled with perennial Top 25 teams, the tournament match up with Marquette marked the eighth time the Red Storm faced a ranked opponent. During the Norm Roberts Era, St. John’s has defeated six ranked teams including this season’s victory over then No. 7 Notre Dame.

    Stanford Cardinal (18-13 overall, 6-12 Pac-10, 9th)
First year Head Coach Johnny Dawkins was victorious in his first ever Pac-10 Tournament game, when the Cardinal avenged a pair of regular season losses to Oregon State. Entering the tournament as a No.9 seed Stanford was led by senior Anthony Goods and Lawrence Hill both of whom received all-conference honors for the second time in their careers. Freshman Jeremy Green also earned a spot on the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team averaging 6.0 points per game and 2.2 rebounds.

Troy Trojans (19-12 overall, 14-4 Sun Belt, 3rd)
Led by veteran coach Don Maestri the Trojans finished the regular season above .500 for the first time since the 2003-04 season (19-11). The team also secured their first-ever winning season in the Sun Belt Conference with a record of 14-4. These results not only earned Maestri the Sun Belt Coach of the Year, but also all conference recognition for a trio of juniors: Brandon Hazzard, Richard Delk and Michael Vogler. Hazzard became the first player in league history to be named Player of the Week for three consecutive weeks.

UTEP Miners (19-12 overall, 10-6 Conference usa, 5th)
The 2008-09 season marked the 20th time in school history that the Miners have registered 10 victories in league play. Under Coach Tony Barbee, UTEP has displayed steady improvement each season, posting 6-10 league mark in 2006-07, 8-8 in 2007-08 and 10-6 this year. Over the course of the season Stefon Jackson became the all-time leading scorer in C-USA and was tabbed to the United States Basketball Writers Association All-District VII Team for the second year in a row. Freshman Arnett Moultrie was also selected to the C-USA All-Freshman Team.

Vermont Catamounts (23-8 overall, 13-3 America East, 1st)
Vermont is coming off a another successful season led by junior stand out Marqus Blakely who brought home the America East Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards. This marks the ninth straight season that a Catamount has won a major conference award. Head Coach Mike Lonergan has guided this experienced team through a tough non-conference schedule with seniors Mike Trimboli and Colin McIntosh leading the way with Blakely. Freshman Garvey Young was acknowledged by the America East earning a spot on the All-Rookie team.

Wichita State Shockers (16-16 overall, 8-10 Missouri Valley Conference, 6th)
The youthful Shockers’ were led by a pair of guards in Clevin Hannah and Toure Murry both of who were recognized by the MVC on the All-Newcomer Team. Murry was also selected to the MVC All-Freshman Team. The Shockers had tremendous success at Charles Koch Arena where they carried a 13-3 record, selling the arena out eight times. Coach Gregg Marshall has helped lead the resurgent Shockers to a .500 regular season record and much improved 8-10 conference record.

Wyoming Cowboys (19-13 overall, 7-9 Mountain West Conferece, 6th)
Led by senior Brandon Ewing, the Cowboys were victorious in four out their final six Mountain West Conference regular season games. Ewing became the first player in MWC history to lead the league in both scoring and assists, earning him First Team all-MWC. Ewing was one of four Cowboys to be recognized by the head coaches and media of the MWC, others included Freshman of the Year Afam Moujeke, Tyson Johnson, and Sean Ogirri, both of whom were named Honorable Mention All-MWC. Twelve of the Cowboys nineteen victories came at home this season.

    Re: OT: Beavers win championship!!!

lol no offense, but that is a weak ass tournament field. Outside of Stanford, there is no major conference team in there.
College basketball is getting diluted with too many post-season tourney's just like college football has way too many bowls. Even the NIT is a bit much. You should not be invited to play postseason with a 13-18 record, bottom line.
It is good exposure for the OSU program though and Craig has done a nice job. This post was more so directed towards CBB in general not OSU.

It's a bit like winning 'miss congeniality' in a beauty pageant, but they still had to play the games and either win them or lose them, so congrats to Coach Rob and taking a historically terrible team and really turning them around in one season.

Next year should be really interesting with their 22nd ranked recruiting class.

Wow, a lot of pathetic Duck fans, bent that they couldn't even get into the CBI... now that's a joke.

Congrats Beavers. To go from 0 pac10 wins last year to this is impressive, regardless of how meaningless the CBI is. It's like the Blazers going .500 last year. Sure, nothing to write home about but it's a big step in the right direction.

    The Ducks suck. :biglaugh:

    Re: OT: Beavers win championship!!!

actually, Stanford, OSU and St. Johns are all from big conferences. and if you look at the #'s, college basketball has a lower % of teams in the post season than CFB. in fact it is about 1/3 of the teams that play in the postseason vs. roughly 1/2 in football.

having said that, i find it odd that OSU's record was that much worse than every other team in the tourney. the only other team with a losing record was St.Johns and they were still 3 games better than OSU.
