They asked me a bunch of questions, then gave me a physical, and after about an hour they had me go back and give blood. They needle they use is HUGE. After the lady put the needle in blood went everywhere because she forgot to clamp it shut, it was pretty cool. There are two cycles on the machine they use, one were it takes blood out and one were it puts blood back in. Te cycles rotate every few minutes. Once they are done they put some saline back into your body though returning blood. It makes they blood VERY red, it's also pretty cool. They had about 6 TVs in the donating room showing the same movie. They also had about 32 beds. After you are done they give you a piece of paper with a pin on it, then you go to the ATM and use the pin they gave you to withdraw your money. I get $40 dollars the first two visits, then $20 the first visit of a week and $35 the second visit of a week. So, you can get up to $55 dollars a week or an extra $220 dollars for a four week month. The staff was really nice. It took me 53 minutes to donate, which they said is pretty fast for a first timer. Most of the people I saw there seemed to be college students. I am going to go back on Tuesday.
Man I wanna do this sooooo bad. Easy money. And yes, I'm a college student. BTW its not donating if they gave you money for it right? Thats just selling your plasma.
According to the fine people at ZLB you are being paid for your "time", not for the plasma it's self. In the all the literature they had around they called it donating too. Oh well, money is money.
Do you have a plasma center around there? You can donate plasma a lot more often then whole blood because they only take out the plasma and put everything else back in, and since your body re-generates all the lost plasma in 48 hours you can donate every two to three days. Man, I learned a lot while I was there...
I heard that selling plasma scars your veins after so many visits. Still, I'm a little strapped for cash so I might check this out.
