Mike Francesa just interviewed him. Heres basically what he said.

    - Pryz is most underated big man in the nba... but stuck "with those guys in portland" if he was on a better team and not in portland, you would all know his name

    - lakers will beat cavs

    - quality of nba all time low

    - blazers and nuggets arent going anywhere

    - utah will scare someone in the west... his sleeper team that has a chance to go to the finals

    - when he was asked about upcoming big man and who the knicks should sign... no mention of LA at all

    - neither him or mike seem to think much of us

Chuck is entitled to his opinion. It's a good thing that he's usually wrong.

I have zero problem with Barkley expressing his opinion. He's always man enough to admit when he's wrong.

I never got this... is he talking about the four or five or six other teams int he NBA that are better than us? I'd say we are a tier 2 team along with SA, Houston, Denver and Orlando, no?

Charles also loved Brandon Roy his second year, and said he deserved to be an All-Star his first time. Then earlier this season, he says we have no go-to guy and Roy isn't one of those guys. The guy just seems bitter.

WHAT?!?! Lol.. better than my boy LMA? Aldridge has been the best player on our team the past month or so, imo.

Chuck is always saying this that and the other, and most of the time he is contradicting what he said months earlier. He is fun to listen to, but I wouldn't hang my hat on anything he said. That said, I don't see why anyone outside of blazer fans would suggest that the Blazers would succeed. I think the Blazers have a good shot at the second round, but that might be homerism. If I were being totally unbiased there would be two things I would point to as to why the Blazers will be out early. 1) The Blazers have no experience. 2) The Blazers have not been able to win on the road at all against west teams. As a homer, I can look past these issues and talk about heart and yada yada, but as an outsider I would not be high on the Blazers.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Barkley's opinion seems to be that Portland is barely a playoff-level team, if that.

Barkley has been sober for 2 months in a row for the first time in probably 15 years. This might just be coloring his attitude.

I have always felt Barkley was more of a comedian then an NBA analyst. He really hasn't said much lately to make me change my mind.

I think he's right for the most part. Portland shoots too many jumpers to be taken seriously in the playoffs. In a year or two when Portland is more consistant Joel will more than likely get more kudos for his lunch pail approach.

A better team? He should have said a city on the East Coast, that would make sense. But he is absolutely right about him being the most under-rated big man. Though I"m not sure what he means by "stuck with those guys in Portland". Joel actually gave up some salary to stay here Barkley, you ***got fuck face.

Will Portland not advance past the 1st round? Probably not, since chances are we will not have home court advantage.

Portland shoots less jumpers than Cleavland. They must not be true contenders as well.

For the record - the Spurs are even worse.

I have zero problem with his opinion of the Blazers, if I wasn't a fan I'd say the same thing... But the above quote confuses the shit out of me. Is Barkley aware of Joels career before he came to Portland? What the hell is he talking about? At least he gave Przy some credit, even if he has no idea what the hell he's talking about.

And I totally disagree that the quality of the nba is at an alltime low. However, Barkley sure is. I don't even find him entertaining anymore. I just find him fat, obnoxious, and dumb.

You know if you pay attention to Barkley, you will notice he obviously has not watched Portland play many times from some of the BS he says. I like Charles, but if you are going to comment about a team, how about actually watching them play a few times before opening your trap.

Our efg is also the lowest. Which means our jusmp shots are not as effective. Spin it whatever way you want, but the fact is that Portland shoots a lot of jumpersm and doesn't draw enough fouls. We win games because we have great offensive rebounding.

Yes, we are 0.4 percent behind Cleavland that shoots more jump-shots than us (.466 for them, .462 for us). Add the fact that we are among the best in the league in offensive rebounds and our offense is among the most efficient in the league - and this argument is bunk.

Portland is within reasonable range of jump-shot attempts for playoff teams - as shown - there are at least two teams considered by many to be better playoffs teams than us - that shoot more jump-shots.

This is no spin - it is just a wrong kind of assessment that lags behind reality. Last year's team had a much higher jump-shot percentage (75%) - it was correct to label them as a jump-shooting team. This team is no longer as jump-shooting dependent nor is it an outlier for playoffs teams.

Time to invent a new excuse, Mr. Barkley.

I guess the Orlando Magic are just pretenders this year, even though they are considered a "jump shooting team".

    :dunno:

Personally, I want to know when the term "jump shot" became a negative. When Chuck Barkley made it so?

Aldridge HAS been the best player on the team lately. I would bet he's been a top 10 player in that time.
