    Re: Breaking News....

He just doesn't want to come face the Blazers in the Rose Garden again. He was too embarassed by our last game.

Jackson is a coward. He ducks out when the going gets rough, like he did with the Bulls and Lakers.

With the game being played in PTD and Phil not there barking at the refs all night to get a call for his stars (and instead it will be Rambis) . . . I expect to get the majority of call tommorrow.

Lame move by Phil. Oh well, we'll kick their ass with or without that blue hair!

Tomorrow is their last road game, so if there is a game to miss I guess it makes sense to miss this one.

    Phil Jackson's Injury is Bogus

Plantar fasciitis is in the ankle, nothing to do with his lower right leg. Unless he did something else that we didn't know about.

It's actually more associated with the foot itself.

Plantar faciitis affects the tendons in the bottom of your foot. The tendons that fan out from your heel bone to the balls of your feet. Hurts like a bitch.

Already a thread about this, and how flying on a plane can exacerbate swelling, and how this is the last road game of the season for the Lakers.

Does he need that foot to not be swollen to coach? It's one thing if he's a player, but all he does is sit on that big throne and roll his eyes.

I watched part of the DEN/LAX game and I didn't see Phil Jackson limping at all. I guess he just wants to sleep another night without traveling to PDX. Or hes planning on getting a pain shot injected into his ankle Friday and by doctors advice told him to stay put at home.

P.S. Sorry I didnt see this thread on page 2 when I created my own new thread. I try to search or become observant for topic titles such as "Phil Jackson skips trip" but "Breaking News Phil Jackson" didn't catch my eye.

Re: Phil Jackson's Injury is Bogus

That article you are referring to is poorly written and way off base. I am a podiatrist and the plantar fascia would not cause your lower leg to swell one bit. The plantar fascia is a continuation of your achilles tendon as it wraps around your heel bone (calcaneus) and continues onto the bottom of your foot where the fascia fans outs towards your forefoot. It is most tender and painful on the medial aspect of your heel since that is where the fascia originates. Every step you take puts strain and pressure at the insertion site of the fascia leading to inflammation and pain. Typically plantar fasciitis is pain worse in the morning, with the 1st step and gradually gets better the more you walk (it loosens up and stetches out). If you sit for a while or are inactive then get up you feel the pain again as the fascia starts to contract. ABM the frozen water bottle trick works as it ices the area directly reducing inflammation while also massaging the fascia. Systemic NSAID's have some benefit as well. Orthotics work because the change the architecture of your foot and the pull of the tendons thus giving you a more supportive arch. In severe cases injection of a steroid into the area helps drastically reduce inflammation but in the end the reason why it becomes so painful is because the fascia is too tight therefore 3x daily stretching exercises need to be performed to solve the problem (all other treatments just alleviate the symptoms not treat the problem).

So why am I saying all this? Honestly I am sure P. Jackson is in pain (bigger guys carry more weight and it is more debilitating to them) but the whole notion that he can not take a plane because his leg swells because of the plantar fascia is a cop out. In reality, if he does not take that flight he wouldn't have to leave LA for a couple of weeks (because of their last games being at home and the 1st 2 games of the playoffs at home). He just wants a little more time to charge his battery and rest before the grind of the playoffs is all which is fine. I just think come up with a better excuse like the flu vs something that is even medically possible is what I'm saying.

Yeah , as soon as the head coach gets off the plane, they are carried to a car. As the rest of the team and coaching staff head to their hotel for the night, Phil is taken to the Rose Garden and carried to his seat on the sidelines where he'll remain until the team is ready to head back to L.A. after the game. This is standard practice throughout the NBA.
