What's funny is comparing Oden to Tim Duncan - the greatest PF of all time... and saying his downside is Alonzo Mourning - I got a good laugh out of that one.

    Oden is a project. Period.

Lower your expectations. I will save you some grief in a couple years when Oden is constantly injured and/or in foul trouble.

Reading comprehension fail. I compared Bynum to Alonzo Mourning. I never provided a "downside" to Oden in that post. Oden's downside is "reduced to irrelevance due to injuries."

    Yeah, I don't get it.

Defend your (dumb) posts or get labeled as just a MIXUM-type gimmick.

Why wouldn't Oden have a higher ceiling... when he's been called maybe the best C prospect since Shaq?

You said Oden's impact will be as great as Tim Duncans (perhaps the greatest big man in the modern era)

It would be funny if it weren't so stupid.

    don't confuse HYPE with potential..

Bynum is clearly the superior offensive player.. Oden is big and clumbsy. He has lost the athletic advantage he once had.. hopefully he gets it back someday.

Oden is a project.. similar to Bayless only at a different position. Nothing more, nothing less.

Shaq and Olajuwon were greater. David Robinson was arguably greater.

If you had any arguments illustrating why it's stupid, I'd take your opinion seriously.

Bynum is clearly the superior offensive player currently. The idea behind projecting Oden (whether its to Duncan or Mourning or whomever else) is about where Oden will grow to, not where he is currently.

Have you considered eHarmony. Maybe you and Mixum can join at the same time and get a 2 for one price. I have a feeling you guys will be matched on multiple dimensions. ;)

You know that is interesting. Because even as is, Greg is better than a vast majority of the centers in the NBA. For a project, he sure has a hell of a good start, and that is one "project" I will take any day of the week. So go ahead, keep acting like you know it all. You just end up looking like Charles Barkley after he watches the Blazers for 1/2 of basketball a year and then makes dumb ass comments about the Blazers just like you do.

The difference between Greg and greatness is timing and that will come in the next two years. Bynum doesn't uproot other centers with ease, not since Shaq have I seen that kind of raw strength. Greg just needs to wise up on the dumb fouls and not rush his low post moves. OH GREGS GOING TO BE GOOD! Tonight I think we'll see just a taste of what's to come. ESPN and the dunk mistake is all the motivation he'll need!!! TRUST ME!!!

Bynum has a few years of NBA experience, the key word is EXPERIENCE.

    Exhibit A- Injury prone
    Exhibit B - Foul prone
Exhibit C - Zero Offensive game
Exhibit D - Attitude issues (pouting)

    Guilty as charged.

Hank c'mon usually you put up a better fight than this. its a Bynum thread compared to Oden.. Injury prone applies to both. And for how you were using "Quicksand" to back your arguments yesterday, you are not using that same Behind the Locker room article on how Oden has improved and is more personable. :tsktsk:

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Lots of players have suffered a few injuries early in their carers without being derailed. I did note that injuries are the potential downside for Oden.

Yes, that's been his weakness this season. If you're saying Oden isn't Tim Duncan right now, you've done a magnificent job disproving an argument no one has made.

Almost all the NBA head coaches disagree with you, since they double-team him consistently. Considering that double-teams in the post open up shooters on the perimeter, and Portland thrives on open shots, this isn't something any non-insane coach would have his defense do unless he considered it necessary.

Translation: "I can't think of anything else, I give up."

I had hoped you'd actually provide a challenging opposing viewpoint.

Oden has improved this season - from D league scrub to average nba bench player.

I just don't see what the hype is.. never have. There are a handful of Center prospects like Oden every couple of years.. some of them turn into decent players - some don't.

Oden is far from a sure thing.

    1. No team has a "leave shooters open via complete unnecessary double-teams" philosophy
    2. Almost every team double-teams Oden (Phoenix is a notable exception because Shaq is large enough that Oden can't overwhelm him physically)

Bynum brings to mind Rodney Rogers, a finesse player in a banger's body, highly skilled and mobile, but strangely invisible much of the time...

    You're wrong. Sorry.

Some teams double the post - others do not. Oden is not special...no matter how much you guys want to close your eyes and wish that he was.

Yeah.. highly skilled and mobile are terrible traits in an NBA big man.

I'd much rather have a raw, clumbsy big man any day.
