They're talking about it on Canzano's show today. Is there an actual rivalry between the two teams?

I get the feeling that Laker fans could care less about the Blazers and don't view them as a threat at all. But as Blazer fans, we love to hate the Lakers and everything purple and gold. Is this just a one-sided thing, and Blazer fans just hate the bully from the big city?

And what would it take for it to be an actual rivalry?

We need to beat them in the playoffs. Or at least put a scare into them.

I would say that right NOW, it's a pretty one-side rivalry. Looking longer-term, though, what other team should the Lakers be concerned about in the West other than the Blazers?

If we knock them out of the playoffs this year, they'll take the rivalry more seriously.
We need to do as much damage to them as they've done to us in past years.

Laker fans just despise any team that is competitive with them, generally. When a team is good, they start hating the team with a passion....then when they suck, they don't really care less. Its just a general sign of the bandwagoness and lack of history and knowledge of the game itself that many of the Laker fans have.

In my view, the Laker fans are probably, on average, the lowest Basketball IQ/bandwagon type fans in the game. Bar None.

*couldn't* care less (Sorry, but that's one of my biggest pet peeves.)

And no, I really think Laker fans couldn't care less about the Blazers.

It's completely one-sided. And I don't care one whit. Hating the L*kers is my birthright.

It's our ONLY rivalry that I'm aware of, and always has been.

Younger fans, and younger sportswriters, really couldn't understand.

I think we see it as a rivalry because the Laker fans are just classless trash. While a team like San Antonio or Utah...its easy to dislike them, the Lakers are easy to LOATHE because of their fanbase. At least other teams you can respect...but not the Lakers...from their organization to their coach to their players to their fans...all trash.

Most teams hate the Lakers because their fans are annoying little monkeys.

I fucking hate Laker fans. They are the biggest pieces of shit on earth (generally speaking, of course).

Pot, meet kettle. (Blazers fans) I don't blame you for extreme bitterness though. I would be too in your position.

It will be fun to witness a win in the Rose Garden tonight.

I rivalry takes two to tango, so no, this one sided hate-fest is just that: a one sided hate-fest.

I also think LA doesn't really consider the Blazer a rival. But I was surprised to read in one thread that the mosted intense hatred the Lakers feel on the road comes from the Celtics and then the Blazers. Blazer fans leave an impression on the Lakers . . . which has to generate some emotion out of them.

Maybe the fans create an environment where at least games in Ptd have some kind of rivalry feeling. The fans, coupled with the Ptd success over the Lakers in Ptd, must make the game feel different than a normal road game for Laker players. :dunno:

How about Blazer-Laker games at the Rose Garden . . . nah . . . Lakers aren't our equal in our house. Maybe a nuetral venue and things would be equal. :D
