According to Isaac and Suke. Not good news IMO. I'm not very huge on athletes having their attention divided into other areas and taking away practice time and whatnot. Don't get me wrong, I know Oden just loves Hollywood stuff and has a lot of fun being a celebrity sometimes but if this continues to be a trend, it will get me really nervous. Darius Miles had a lot of potential, none of us can deny that. Part of why he busted was because he chose to work on films during the off-season instead of practicing and staying healthy. I don't necessarily mind Oden working on movies, just as long as he gets his ass back on the court. He deserves to have some fun off the court, but just hopefully he doesn't end up like Miles.
Kareem, Michael, and Shaq all made movies during their careers. Greg's a ham at heart, and quite starry eyed. I can't see him getting more than a few days of shooting.
This is funny to me because if we read that during the summer Greg oden was in the gym 10 hours a day killing himself to get in shape people on this forum would be posting angry messages about how he needs rest. I know I've seen it past summers when reports come out about players working very hard in the offseason, although I suppose martel said he will tone it down a bit in the future. People complain about not getting exposure for guys like Roy and how the fans will never vote him into the allstar game and he doesn't get the credit he deserves due to our small market. Greg will have some fun, get national exposure and STILL be hitting up the gym.
Maybe in a few years after he's done something, but right now and until he's established himself he should be 100% working on his game.
I don't think we have the right to tell Greg how to spend his summer. I'm sure he'll only be shooting for a couple of weeks which is a normal rest period after the basketball season for NBA players. I doubt he'll have issues getting in the gym this summer.
This is probably it: Movie next for Oden-Conley book? Dave Krider, who authored the book "Uncaged" on the rise of the Greg Oden and Mike Conley-led Lawrence North High School basketball teams earlier this decade, said the book is in the process of being turned into a movie.
Someone can be in a movie and it might take 3-4 days of work. I will say that I know someone very well who had a potential big project going with Greg this year and Greg finally chose to forgo the opportunity because he wanted to concentrate on basketball and nothing else right now. No worries.
