Blazers have never not won the championship... the first time making the playoffs after not making the playoffs in the previous year. Can you believe we were in the playoffs twenty six straight years! Missed for 6... then 26 straight... the missed 5.... then back in the playoffs. There are more simularities of course... team first type of a team with no super-duper stars... Lakers on top of Western Conference standings... others I am sure.
Portland missed in 1982. They made the playoffs from 1977-1981, and 1983-2003 for 21 in a row, 26 overall.
If you consider a drought to be more than one season the way you might consider a streak to be more than one game, than it could be said that this was only our second playoff drought. Although, in 1977 the best record in the NBA was 52-30, thanks to the ABA merger bringing unprecedented parity to the league. This year, we're about to have four 60 win teams for the first time since the (official) Jordan era.
Excellent memory. I will agree that there are some similarities between today's team and the 77 champions, but it's a different league, and too many good teams out there. I like the Blazers' chances against whomever they play in the first round, especially if they have HCA. Beyond that, it's all icing on the cake.
Same here. With HCA, I think the Blazers can beat any team in a series, even Cleveland/Boston/LA. After the first round, when the team likely won't have HCA, whatever they do is gravy. Next season is when I'll start expecting real road warriors.
Excuse me? The Blazers won the NBA championship one time, in 1977. That means they have "not won it" 38 times, by my count.
