So they're making Melendez vs. Damm an interim lightweight title fight? Kind of surprising.

    :tsktsk::confused:

Sure he doesn't know shit about MMA but he's the most exciting announcer in the world today. I'm glad Strikeforce and Showtime brought him in to do this.

I want Mauro Ranallo's head though. That guy just sucks.

Goddamn I love me some Nick Diaz. He made Frank look like complete shit.

And... um... what does this mean about Cung Le? Paper champ or what?

I hope Nick Diaz doesnt get this win taken away because he fails a drug test. It was a beautiful win.

These play by play guys are too quick to annoint every winner as one of the elite fighters in the world. With Diaz its fine cause he does have skills but with Scott Smith its like, he beat Benji Radach and it was a good fight but calm down a bit.

    Thoughts:

-- Cris Cyborg couldn't make weight because of "female problems". Seems like it all must've been a ploy to convince people she is actually a woman.
-- "Abongo" was looking for a way out of his fight with Rogers, and crying foul for the hair pulling was his method. Herb Dean should've seen that. Also, Dean can't stop the fight and give Humphrey time to recover because of hair pulling. You can only pause the fight because of a groin shot, IIRC. So I don't know what Herb was doing tonight.
-- Smith vs. Radach was bound to be exciting as both guys hit hard and both have suspect chins. Smith with another miracle on his resume. The announce team did their best to sell him but honestly the guy lost his way out of the UFC and into EliteXC/Strikeforce, as many of their fighters have. You can't really do much with Smith because his ground game sucks. Maybe Strikeforce will pick up Pete Sell, if he is out of a gig, and get a rematch between these two--although Sell has been fighting at 170 lately.
-- Gilbert Melendez's win over Rodrigo Damm isn't much to ponder. Easy win for Melendez. Damm being a Brazilian wrestling champion is meaningless because Brazilians suck at wrestling. I thought Melendez would pin him against the cage and punch him all night but kudos to the Fairtex fighter for getting a standing knockout win. It shouldn't have been for the interim title, though, as Damm has no business vying for it.
-- Frank Shamrock looked terrible. He was overwhelmed by Diaz's volume striking. He looked tired within the first minute. I don't like Gus Johnson going in there and giving him an excuse. No fighter comes into a fight at 100%. And its especially shitty when Diaz was the one coming up twenty pounds to make the fight happen. What was most surprising for me was Shamrock getting his guard passed and getting mounted so easily. Even if he had taken Cung Le down, could he have done anything? Is his time up? Is Ortiz/Shamrock II still viable?
-- Nick Diaz could make a nice home for himself with Strikeforce but after his last few performances I want to see him fighting top competition. I don't know where he goes from here if he stays with Strikeforce. He won't fight Melendez or Shields. Who is left?
-- Strikeforce's fights weren't negatively affected by the "no elbows/forearms" rule tonight but I hope this is just something they have to conform to in California and not an institutional change. Standing elbow strikes should never be disallowed and they would've helped in a couple of fights tonight, especially Rogers/Humphrey. It was funny that Nick Diaz threw a couple of elbows and Big John didn't say anything--the fighters are used to being able to use them and I'm sure McCarthy was aware of that and let it slide.
-- Gina Carano's shy girl routine needs to go. She's been doing non-stop publicity and getting her face out there for a couple of years now. She's got a fight on her hands now with Santos, though. She can't duck Santos like she ducked Tara Larosa. This one is inevitable. Hopefully it doesn't take eight months to happen because of Carano's busy schedule.

Does Diaz have some sort of beef with Dana? if not I'd like to see him in the UFC in the near future. He could probably do okay in the 170 division, I doubt he'd go to 155 with his brother being there and all.

Diaz did some dumb shit when he was in the UFC, mainly getting into a fight with Joe Riggs at the hospital after their bout, but there aren't hard feelings, IIRC. I think Dana would take him back given the opportunity. The 170lbs division the UFC is a shark tank, though.

    Just a few comments.

If Diaz could get his act together, he really could be a "world class" fighter. The kid is a classic example of being "your own worst enemy."

Scott Smith has cajones the size of cannon balls. How did he win that fight?

Am I the only one who finds Santos in a string bikini a little scarey? Not the least of which because from the neck down she is kinda hot!

Cristiane Santos is a very nice and friendly looking woman. I would like to shake her hand someday.
That's all I'm going to comment about her because this is her husband

I've heard of spouses starting to look alike.....but isn't that supposed to happen in old age?
