He does not have the potential to be as good as Shaq, let's just clear that up right now. Amare will never be a 330 pound battering ram who is unguardable.
But he can be a 6'9'', 250 pound athletic freak that isn unguardable. He will not be like Shaq in anyway, but can be just as good in many ways.
