Let's not get too carried away. He lit up the worst team in the league like a christmas tree, but they are still the worst team in the leage, I wouldn't expect him to get quite the same looks against Nic, Brandon, Rudy, etc.

Carmelo. JR will just hover around the perimiter all game if he has the same shot selection.

I actually think JR's big game is good news. Hopefully he will be overconfident like he normally gets, and jack up a bunch of bricks against better competition. Lots of missed 3's=lots of run outs for the Blazers.

Talk about beating a dead horse. Everytime anyone criticizes Rashweed Wallace, for anything at all, you come rushing to his rescue like an overly protective mother. Are you on his payroll, or are you just a relative?

He has to first miss the shots for that theory to hold... He's had three recent games totaling 22 made 3's, if memory serves, all on very high percentage shooting.

High percentage shooting is more likely coming because of team play, not because of something special he is doing. Let's put it this way. It is not very often that a guy just jacks up 3's out of the flow of the offense and hits a high majority of them. If that happens, you send in Michael Ruffin to take him out.

He's a streak shooter, though, and he's been on a very good streak lately. He doesn't strike me as the type to differentiate between good and bad shots, which makes him difficult to defend when he's on...

I don't think he's stupid, he's just what someone once termed a "shotter" (not misspelled). He fires up shots, including ill-advised ones, and has the ability to make really difficult shots. He also has the ability to miss over and over without conscience.

He and Travis Outlaw are basically very similar types of players.

Except that Outlaw has proven to be somewhat coachable; Smith seems to just fire at will. Not sure if that's good or bad, however.

Smith scores a little more, but also turns it over a little more. Otherwise, just about as close to duplicate statistics as you get in the NBA. You see more variation by the same player year-to-year.

The guy already shoots 40% from three. Imagine how good Smith would be if he had any judgment.

Anyway, Karl should ride the snake as far as he can with Smith.

Travis still loves to shoot, though.

Really? Then how can you explain the ill timed technical fouls all the time that he committs? JR Smith has been known for his whole career for being one of those guys that backs up a mistake with an even worse mistake. The reason is he plays with his emotions, and often times lets those get the best of him. Sometimes they take him to plateu like his big night. Most of the time they take him to a seat on the bench when Karl gets sick of his bullshit.

i think jr smith is a fine player and could be pretty good if it werent for george karl.... karl putting his doubts into him have probably given a huge lack of confidence..... plus with a team that jr has been on for the last few years (not counting this one) what did they have to lose by letting him do whatever he wants... except for the chance that he would have gotten better..... george karl is a terrible coach

JR Smith is in a million-way tie for 42nd in the NBA in technical fouls, with 5. He doesn't commit "ill-timed technical fouls all the time." He may have had a few, but that hardly makes him stupid. A bit out-of-control occasionally, perhaps, but I think you're exaggerating greatly based on perhaps seeing a silly tech by him a couple of times.

Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant and Brad Miller are among the league leaders in technical fouls and I wouldn't say they're remotely stupid.
