Ok folks, the Blazers are a virtual lock for the playoffs. Hence, the predictions game will be on for the playoffs. There will be a twist in regard to prizes for the playoff predictions game. I have had discussions with Adidas and we have come up with the following prize pool: The winner of the predictions game for the first round gets a $50 Adidas gift certificate. Each level from here on out assumes they get past the prior level. Hence, assuming the Blazers win round one, the prize for round two is up for grabs, etc. Round 2 prize: $75 gift cert Conference Finals Prize: $100 gift cert NBA Finals Prize: $150 gift cert NBA Championship Bonus Prize (on top of the $150 gift cert): Something signed by one (or more) of the Blazers. Now, an opportunity for you to express your opinions. I am split on how to tally the rankings (beyond the first round) 1) Make the rankings cumulative - the rankings from round 1 roll into round 2 so your round 2 rankings are a cumulative of rounds 1 and 2 (giving the winner of round 1 an edge toward also winning round 2). 2) Treat each round individually - Round two is a completely separate event from round 1 and everyone starts fresh (no carry over effect) when the new round starts. Let me know your preference or if you want to make other suggestions, I'll consider them all. Thanks everyone for participating and a HUGE thanks to Adidas for sponsoring the predictions game! I vote for: 2) Treat each round individually - Round two is a completely separate event from round 1 and everyone starts fresh (no carry over effect) when the new round starts. Thanks again Gramps!
I agree with idea number 2. Each round is individual. I also think you need to be required to predict every game in the round to be eligible.
Ok, that is another question: How many games (if any) can a predictor miss and still qualify? My thought is to give an ounce of forgiveness for missing a game (hence the 70% rule for the regular season). What about in the playoffs the 70% rule becomes 75%? A player can miss one game in a series. 80% and a player can miss one game ONLY if it goes at least five games (miss a game in a four game series and you don't qualify). Thoughts on this aspect as well? Thanks. Gramps...
I think missing one game per round should be ok -- no need for percentages. Miss one game and you're fine, two and you're out.
Gramps, that sounds like a good idea on the number of games being predicted. If it is a four game sweep then you must predict all games. If it goes five or more than you can only miss one game.
I vote for #2 and you must predict ALL games to be eligible. It only takes a few seconds a day to log in and make a prediction, which isnt to much to ask for such a great prize. Thank you GrandpaBlaze and Adidas!
I like Idea 2 and think you should be able to miss one game if it goes past a 4 game series. If its a sweep you shouldn't be able to miss a game
Option 2 I vote that you CAN NOT miss any games. The series is way too short to allow somebody to use the strategy of missing a game to keep his average level. Games are spaced out far enough. If somebody truly cant get to a comp for a game they can start the prediction immediately after the previous game is over. In no way should a prediction thread be allowed for a game until the last game is done since some strategy is involved. Thanks again Gramps for everything
To see the prize booty for the playoff predictions game - see the first post in this thread. Here are the rules: 1. Each series is a game in-and-unto itself. How you do in round 1 has no effect on round 2 (I'm planning on round 2) 2. You must predict 80% of the games - this means that in a four game series, you cannot miss any games. If it goes longer than four games, you can miss one game. Thanks to everyone for playing and here's to Blazer success! Gramps...
GrandpaBlaze quick question for you. I will be out of the country for game numbers 4-6 if it goes that long. Will I be able to predict those games ahead of time (even for the TBA games just in case those games are played)? I will be able to watch the games but will not have ANY computer access. Thanks again for doing this for all of us!!!
Yes. Just PM me with your predictions for those games (whether they actually occur or not) and you'll be good to go. Gramps...
I like this idea. You must predict at least the first 4 games to qualify, and only miss 1 there after. (Although I think its so short you should not miss any of them) and vote for option 2
