The difference between old fans and young fans.. They think they know more about basketball automatically.. I was talking to a friend of my dads on friday and he said that he wants no part of San Antonio cause they have guys who know how to win. I told him yeah funny thing is San Antonio is a better team than Houston, but we match up better with them than the Rockets.. he responded with "How many titles have they won" "I had season tickets back in 1988-92 I have seen some things..." So what Some of us youthful ones are students of the game too. And one more thing.. most of your "Bake It" predictions are pretty wrong most of the time.. please stop
I'm pretty sure young or old, some fans realize that it's bad juju that we just lost HCA. I'm pretty sure some fans, young or old, realize that we do not match up well with Houston. This is a young team that got blown out by 28. How can anyone predict how they will respond?
Houston was the worst match-up we could have had. They seem to have our number sort of like we have the Lakers' number... That said, they can't again shoot as well as they did last night. Blazers win, Blazers win!
I only posted this thread as a distraction for the youngsters, who for the most part are acting like Houston has swept us. I was not saying young fans are less knowledgeable about the game. Basketball is far more popular now than when I was young, so more young fans have actually played the game a lot. Just pointing out the obvious that young people generally tend to be reactionary and impatient. I know I once was. Obviously, it's not true of everyone, as our young players have proven. With experience comes patience and the realization that you get many opportunities in life to redeem yourself. It's a 7 game series, and as long as you haven't lost four times, you have a pretty decent shot. As for "Baking it!", obviously I was 100% correct. We won more games than anyone, even myself, predicted. We not only made the playoffs but also got HCA. I said at the beginning of the season we had the talent to win 52 games, and if we didn't it would be due to coaching weakness if anything. Kudos to Nate for one-upping me! If you are referring to the fact that I picked the Blazers to win every single game in the Prediction thread, well that's just something I have always done to support the team. I have never predited they would lose a game in all the years Gramps has had the contest and I never will. I just don't believe that's something a real fan should do. It hasn't completely prevented me from winning the contest either. I was winner for a month last year and got some nice Adidas kicks! I agree with you we don't match up well with the Rockets, but not that SA is a better team. Once upon a time they were but now SA is just about done. They are old and have little heart, which is why they needed massive help from the refs down the stretch to even make the playoffs. BAKE IT!
I was more reffering to the standings you were in on the predictions game.. not the pick of the Blazers winning. Oh and with the Spurs being better.. more injuries, and they still finished ahead of them.. I still think they are a better team than the Rockets.
What's the point of making predictions if every one of your predictions is 99-98 blazers win. Seems somewhat obnoxious and troll like
Of course. We are all unique. But generalizations are generally true, and after perusing the various reactions on this board after the game I feel they generally back up the point of my post.
Yeah, I think this was my worst year for the contest overall. Nate threw me off by actually picking up the pace this year as I've wanted for so long, and so we won by larger margins as uptempo teams usually do. I'm sure the Spurs think they're better also, but we would have swept them if we had met them.
