Honestly if that's how you think the Cavs play you should watch them more. This season with the addition of Mo Williams and John Kuester to the team, the Cavs have developed a new offense with LeBron playing off the ball more than ever before. LeBron's been given the freedom to make off the ball cuts and to utilise screens like he has never been able to before. Furthermore he runs a devastating screen play with Mo Williams (LeBron as the screen man) which can't be overlooked. I accept that, for the most part, this is Kuester's doing but even so, to say Mike Brown's offensive plan is just "give it to LeBron" is just naive. It was a few years ago, but it certainly is not now. Personally I believe Coach Brown deserves it, if only because of the precedent set down the years of giving to to the Coach of the team with the best record. If you're instead looking for the Coach who has done the most with the least, I don't think he's far off (but nor do I think he deserves it). But, hey, the Cavs have had a record-breaking season, let them take some credit.
...I think this award should be renamed to the Doc Rivers Award. Seriously. Not being a homer but Nate accomplished heck of a lot more with heck of a lot less.
I do hate that it seems to be heading the direction of "Coach of the Best Record" award, but it's not like Mike Brown has done nothing. He's had the Cavs as one of the top defensive teams in the league for a few years now, and they are actually pretty good on offense this year. I do think there are some more deserving coaches personally, for example I would've voted SVG. Adelman deserves some props too for the job he did.
I see what you're saying, but here's my problem. I expected the Cavs to contend for best record in the East. I didn't expect a team with the 2nd youngest roster (four rookies in the rotation) to finish with 5th best record in the NBA and secure home-court advantage in the superior conference. Which coach did more with less? That's what I ask myself. Put that veteran team in the West and what happens to that record? I don't know. I don't like it.
i get the love for nate and think he should have finished higher than 4th but giving it to brown is way down there on the list of bad awards. i was talking to a friend today and we were comparing LeBron's Cavs to MJ's bulls and which supporting cast we would take, and we took Pip out of it. the cast of characters around LBJ are not that good and they had a great season. touch to really complain.
Why are you selling us so short? The Cavs don't have THAT much more talent than us. After LeBron, we have a lot better players.
He is deserving. Who thought that the Cavs would have the best OVERALL record in the NBA? Not me! I knew Portland would compete for the division and knew that a 1st round HCA was a possibility.
The "award" lost any credibility about 10 years ago when people started realizing Jerry Sloan still hadn't won it. Mike Brown has accomplished nothing to deserve consideration, let alone win it.
