There are a lot of arenas where he wouldn't have left the court for the last time to a standing ovation like he did tonight. One of the living legends, will be missed.
Me too... we tried to start a Mutumbo chant in 331, but it wasn't really gonna fly in the frothy heat of the moment. I have to say, the crowd in my section was kick-ass. If any of you were near Row A in 331... you guys are awesome!
Horrible...knew it the second you saw his face. Such a bummer. He deserved a better ending to his career than this. Probably the biggest philanthropist the NBA ever knew. I tip my cap to you Deke...awesome career
The Mountain will always stand tall in the land of the NBA. I will never forget the wag of the finger, nor the many amazing games I have seen him play. The guy was a great addition to the NBA, and his memory will live on. Congrats on a great career.
Agreed. I told my fiancee about the Denver/Seattle series in 1994 that is my overriding memory of Deke. He was truly a force in his heyday.
That Hawks team with Steve Smith, Mookie Blaylock, and Deke was very good.... unfortunately they were in the era of Jordan.
Dude's 43 and still playing a kid's game - he was playing with house money. I'd have been shocked to see his career go beyond the next few games and Houston's elimination from the playoffs by the Blazers.
Sad news. You never want to see anybody forced to retire on anything but their own terms, especially a guy as great as he was.
